PHOTOS PLEASE
Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
i thought so because your images seem washed out on screen.
aRGB is for high gamut printing. for screen display you need sRGB unless you have a monitor capable of displaying the larger aRGB gamut. you'd normally pay around £3k for a NEC Reference 21 or similar although i think cheaper ones are now coming though. also, many internet browsers not support aRGB (like IE).
try setting it to sRGB when you develop the RAWs, you'll see a much better colour render.

Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
Ah...would that explain why my images look a lot better in photoshop than they do here?
is there any benefit to keeping the camera at aRGB?

Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
There is, but only if you plan on printing the images you take in aRGB. One of the plus points of RAW is you can develop the image in sRGB or aRGB as you need it.
The rule of thumb is sRGB for web and safe printing, aRGB for modern printers. There’s also a few more colour spaces making their way into photography such as ProPhoto RGB which is very wide. It’s normally used if you have a 10-12 channel printer.

Macro......

A Sunset..........

A Sunset..........

Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
I've not seen those little round 'blobs' of clouds before, interesting.
With that macro - is that with tubes or focus stacking or anything like that?

I see consistency here, photo wise.

Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
pretty sure you posted that sunset pic last year, form
in fact i actually photoshoped the colors more to my liking and used it as my background at work when you originally posted it

Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
Uh, no, this was the other one.

No tubes, no stack tnf.

that's just sum crazy colours
Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
Been fucking around with HDR more. Still trying to find the right balance between effective use and overdone. Here are some recent efforts.
The river shot was an overcast day, so everything is sort of muted. I switched over to sRGB, but for some reason all my pictures look much more washed out in internet browsers than they do on screen in photoshop. Anyone know why that would be?

Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
Good job, tnf. You have to teach me how to use photomatix sometimes.

Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
That chapel, or whatever the hell that is looks fake. Looks like CGI almost...
Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
It's a chapel. Not sure what else might look like that besides one. And a lot of HDR looks like that - most that I've seen appear even more processed. Some like it, some don't.
Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
Hold on tnf... that may not be a chapel after all. Clearly because of all the buttresses and steeples and stained glass windows, it's a turkey farm.

The following was not copy/pasted from another website...
I'll tell you in Catholicism what they mean (might be the same in those Churches that are still close to us, like the Lutherans or Anglicans)
A Church is a general word for the place where the celebration of the Mass is. Technically you can call any of these 'churches'. It's the meeting place of a parish.
A Chapel is smaller and doesn't necessarily have to involve the Mass. It's a place for devotion and prayer, though sometimes a very small church is called a Chapel. More commonly you'll hear "Adoration Chapel" or "Our Lady's Chapel". These are places to go for prayer and devotions.
A Cathedral is generally a huge church. It is where the Bishop primarily celebrates Mass. His 'seat' (Cathedra) is there.
An Abbey is the church attached to a monastary or convent.
You didn't ask, but: A Basillica is a church that figures important in History or local devotion. It's an honorary title.
A Shrine is a place devoted to a very specific Saint, or Mary. The Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is rather large and beautiful, and is built to honor that one trait of Mary. A shrine can also be very small and in private homes; a statue surrounded by flowers and candles can be a shrine.

If that turkey farm was in Dresden it'd have been bombed.
Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
Tried some bug macros this afternoon while visiting my parents (tons of flowers so lots of pollinators)
Only had the pop up flash available and these haven't had any work done except for one shot that I desaturated a bit.

This shot was one of the more difficult I've taken - I have one that is a bit sharper on another CF card. Trying to get this little bastard in focus while in flight with that macro lens was a pain in the ass.

An Infant grasshopper a molt or two away from adulthood.....( 60 mm with 36 mm tube )

A Yellow Darter Dragonfly...... ( 60 mm only )

Same photo at 98% crop for eye detail..........(bastard would not let me get near it face on).

Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
Do you use the ring flash for all your macros? I'm seeing how a flash like that would be really helpful.
Form as I try more and more macro stuff I grow more and more impressed by the sharpness of the images you've done.
BTW - what does 1:1 or 1:2 refer to when they are talking about macro lenses?
