HDR is tricky thing to do. It balances on the 'arty' side of photography and it's a personal taste if you like it or not. I'm not overly fond of it since it looks unnatural to me. Single-shot RAW HDR photos are something I like to do more in the future.
I took this HDR photo last year, composed of 3 or 5 exposures. I like the details in the photo, took me a few tries with Photomatrix to get it like this.

Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
Nice photos Sparkle. Bit heavy on the contrast and blacks, but for artistic purposes it's good.
Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
I hear you about personal taste and HDR. I see a lot of HDR that looks so overprocessed that the image looks more like a cheap oil painting than anything resembling a photograph. I tend to like it more for landscapes more than indoor stuff because of the details you can preserve and show in so many different areas.saturn wrote:HDR is tricky thing to do. The shot you posted here is the type of indoor stuff I like - where you might not be able to tell HDR was done unless you knew something about photography.
Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
These little guys were trying to pick up this feather. Tough to time the shot, and the lighting wasn't great, but I though the reflection/shadow of this one was cool. You had to be really quick to get them going by.

Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
I would comment on the above photos but we have all grown a lot and there's some real nice work going on. But the thing is when you make it a job, it's no fun any more.
Macro..........60mm with a 36 mm Kenko Tube at ground level focus stacked. Really making me want that MPE-65 all over again. (EXIF Data stripped due to stacking)

Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
Jesus that thing is ugly. That's a compliment on the detail of the picture, btw.
Can you tell me what kind of bird it was I photographed in that feather fly by picture Form?
My wife's uncle has had a 100mm macro for his Canon that he has never used. Said he would send it to me to 'figure out' because he only uses the 100-400mm he has. I hope he sends it soon. I really want to try some macro.

Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
I can honestly admit I have never seen that bird or a type of it. Never seen such green colors around here.

Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
I could repost it at a bird forum and see if they know.
Re: PHOTOS PLEASE

Spotted Towhee here.

Here's another bird I couldn't find an ID for. Watched it gathering stuff to make a nest...they were making a nest at almost eye level because the tree they were in was rooted way down a cliff on the roadside.

This bald eagle was a long, long ways away so there isn't much detail or sharpness here (overcast day, I need a tripod or monopod for that damn lens as it has no IS). Thought it looked funny with the feathers are ruffled.

Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
why oh why was he so determined to pick up that feather, I wonder.

The one in the pine tree is a cedar waxwing.
Also, great pics. I share your thoughts on HDR. It's pretty cool, but often overused. My view on good photography is capturing the moment as it looks to you. HDR can help mimic the way we perceive a scene, but only when done right. Those landscape photos do a pretty good job of that.

Here's some photos I took from a local drag race event, one of the forums rented out the track. The link is to the set of the ones I liked the most, and here's some samples. I think they came out quite alright

This one below is my favorite shot out of all of them.

My camera is not very good and I'm not really into photography, but I thought I could post some pics:

Here's a (I believe) Douglas Squirrel:

Here are some pics from the result of a high speed chase following a car jacking. 1 suspect died in the crash, don't think the victims were still in the car thankfully. Can someone figure out what kind of car this was by looking at the pics?

Re: PHOTOS PLEASE
The longest and most intense lightning storm I've ever seen went overhead tonight, took a bunch of pics before it was close enough to pour on us - but we got caught in it really heavy when I went up onto a prairie to try and get some more pics. Didn't work out, huge hail and lightning hit a tree about 100 yards away at one point, almost causing me to crash the car. But here's one of the shots before all hell broke loose overhead. The lights down to the left are a water treatment plant near the river.
First lightning shots ever for me, I was happy with how they turned out.
