Any fishermen here? rod/reel suggestions

Post by BIGWHY »

Looking for an all-around rod/reel for largemouth bass, crappie, and bream. I'd be willing to spend around 100usd for the combo...not to say I want a pre-made combo I'll buy rod and reel separate if it was for the best quality wise.

Something that could throw light lures like beetle spin to some decent size baits big spinners, crankbait, buzzbait....

ahh its been a while since I been fishing ....

PS I DO WANT to spend around 100 for the combo. Ive used baitcasters and spinning reels.

I'll be fishing freshwater Louisiana and Mississippi.

Does Quake3World translate in some language to "Fishing World" or something of the sort?

As opposed to "Shotgun3World"?

Definetly go with an open faced reel. You may have a little trouble learning how to use it at first (backlash possibilities), but in the long run you'll be able to throw farther and be more accurate with your casts. I personally use an Abu Garcia. As for the rod, I like mine flimsy. Gives you more control of your bait.

I just went out yesterday and caught several bass and a catfish...

Low profile abu baitcaster or a big round abu baitcaster? I hear the big rounds won't throw a smaller bait very far.

Or you talking one of those upside down abu spinning reels?

Any idea on a rod? How long should they be. Probabaly should go with medium sensitivity. Ugly stick? Bass pro?

edit:

haha yeau fly fishing maybe one day

It's kind of odd that you have 5 posts and you're here on a gaming site looking for fishing advice. This also isn't a place that someone shopping for fresh water fishing gear would go. So either you're an Alt or some goofball that set up an account on a gaming site to ask fishing questions.

Why does it matter either way?

I don't guess it matters much, really.

But it is odd that someone would start a new account on a gaming forum to ask fishing questions. If it's an Alt, then starting a new account to ask fishing questions would be a bit pathetic.

Quake 3 is dead and has been for awhile....

You've obviously missed my point, so let me explain. I don't see anything wrong with what you're asking. I just find it odd that you came here to ask. Why? Because you say that you've been here since 2000, lost your account and have continued to troll the boards since then. Now, after all that time, you've decided to create another account to ask fishing questions.

Nothing wrong with that, just odd.

Carry on.

Please. That's tying a piece of bait to the back of a boat. But don't worry; someday when you're bigger you might learn to cast flies, too.

As for the price. I just arbitrarily linked to the first one I saw. Happy with this?

Actually... yeah. That one's pretty good.

However, there's no sport in hunting something that isn't big enough to throw yer back out... or eat you if you screw up. :D

p.s.

I agree. That's a much more impressive catch than the marlin. But you can fly fish for some pretty vicious species.
These guys, for instance, can take off fingers.

And while I'll still argue that fly fishing is cooler than rod/reel... I am really just giving you shit.

But seriously, fly fishing for bass and crappie is fun. He should consider learning to cast.

I'm not really sure what you mean by "cooler", cause that's really in the eye of the beholder, but I say as long as you go out there and enjoy yourself it doesn't matter what you do. I regularly fish rod/reel, and I've done fly fishing. They're equally enjoyable...

Yep I love both as well. I haven't had a fly rod in a few years though.

My regular reel is an open-face Abu Garcia as well. It's been great. Of course, I don't fish anything big. Most of my fishing these days is done in the tiny lake near my house.
