overly ambitious noob question (programming firefox)...
I regularly throw common typos in the Firefox address bar when I'm not being careful. Or when I'm drunk. I'm sure everyone does. The most common errors are replacing .com with ".cm" or ".cin", or other similar mishaps.
Anyone know if it's possible to to program firefox to recognize these common mistakes and automatically reroute my browser to the correct page? I hate getting the "address not found" page every time. It seems obvious that when I type "dirtytrannies.cin" that I really mean "dirtytrannies.com", but Firefox refuses to consider this.
So, is it possible to correct this, or is it just wishful thinking, and I really should just learn to type properly?
(also note that I have no programming skills whatsoever. Acceptable replies include: "Go home, son. You're in over your head.")

For commonly viewed websites you can create a bookmark for the website along with a keyword.
For example, instead of typing http://www.quake3world.com, I'll just type q3w and it will load the correct site.
For even more advanced stuff, you can do automatic search querys like this:
http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=%s
with a keyword of "google" and if ever I need to do a search for something on google, I just type in the location bar, "google werldhed's mom" and I'll be able to find those sexy pictures I was looking for.

If you use OpenDNS they automatically do that for you.
Don't let typos slow you down. We correct the most common ones automatically for you in the address bar. Using OpenDNS typo-correction will have everyone in your household zipping around the Internet.

Not really what I'm after, but thanks.obsidian wrote:For commonly viewed websites you can create a bookmark for the website along with a keyword.

I typically use bookmarks, or just use FF's autocomplete thingie (e.g. I type "q" and http://www.quake3world.com/forum shows up in the address bar). And that's fine when it's sites I always visit. But I'm trying to find something for A.) my work computer, and B.) newly-visited websites... both of which preclude bookmarking.
Fender's got the right idea, but I'd rather be able to do it myself instead of go through openDNS.
Oh well... there's probably not an easy solution, at least not one worth the trouble for what really is a non-issue. Thanks anyway.

Winner! QuietURL does exactly what I'm talking about. I don't know why I never think to check out FF addons.
Thanks ax.

Thanks ax.

Bah.. it turns out I can't sign into my Flickr account when QuietURL is enabled. Nuts.

how about you replace your fingers with sharp steel spikes for decreased fatness and improved accuracy?
Re: overly ambitious noob question (programming firefox)...
I have URL Fixer installed: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2871
I don't recall having issues logging in to Flickr either, so hopefully it works for you :)
