Can't set up a Quake 3 LAN game. Help??

Can't set up a Quake 3 LAN game. Help??
I just got Quake 3 and i have been trying to set up a LAN game to play on with my dad. His PC is running Windows XP Home Edition and mine is running Windows Vista Ultimate. I have went to Control Panel->Windows Firewall-> and said to allow Quake 3. But it still wont work. If I run Quake 3 on my dads PC and create a LAN game then it closes out and shows the desktop with the console. The console shows that everything loaded right and that the bots spawned correctly and that they have collected ammo and weapons. So I run Quake 3 again and go to multiplayer and browse Local games, and I have show empty and full games on. But nothing shows up, not even the game created on that PC. But when I do the same thing on my PC, I can connect to the game I created on my PC. But when either of us create a game, neither of us can see the game the other person created. I have a 5-Port hub with my PC set as the uplink(since my specs are better than my dads) and my dads PC plugged into the first port and my Xbox360 plugged into the second port. But I also tried connecting them directly together, and still nothing.
Quake 1/4
and Doom 1/2/3 all work fine.
But Quake 3 doesn't. Can I get any help?

Quick question about the hub -- when you say 5 port, do you mean there are five physical jacks, or that there are six with one marked uplink? Related -- does everything else on your network work normally? File sharing and all that. Yeah. There are 6 ports. One marked uplink. Thats what port my PC is plugged into. But I dont know how to set up a network. No file sharing or anything. I have tried many times before but i just cant. Like I said, all the other games work fine, just Quake 3 doesn't work. A link to a tutorial or a tutoriral from you would be greatly appreciated. Okay, that's not what uplink is for. The uplink port doesn't cross the rx/tx wires, it's used for connecting two hubs together since hubs are "dumb" in this regard. Switches are auto-sensing, so they don't need a special uplink port (any port on a switch can be used to connect to another switch). If everything else (other games, etc) is working, then it's probably not an issue and the nic on your PC must be autosensing -- with older hardware, your main PC wouldn't be on the network at all. Anyway, have you tried connecting to a game using the ip address? /connect xx.xx.xx.xx in the quake3 console? Does that work?

Yup. I tried like 4 times. Each time it was trying to connect and I said "Trying to connect" then it said trying againg 1.......2.......3........4........5.......6.......7........8........9.......10.......11.......12.......13.......14.......15.......16..... and so on until it reached 20 then I just closed out Quake 3, and gave up and just played Quake 1 co-op.Anyway, have you tried connecting to a game using the ip address? /connect xx.xx.xx.xx in the quake3 console? Does that work?

The software firewall on one of the machines is not configured correctly.

Like I said, I configured Windows Firewall to "Unblock" Quake 3. What else am I supposed to configure for Quake 3 in Windows Firewall??The software firewall on one of the machines is not configured correctly.
