All the time I hear people say how she's an awesome singer and such and while I'll give her the benefit of the doubt in that department, it still puzzles me why she feels the need to be all sex symbol like that. It really takes away any credibility in the singing department. A real shame to be honest.
Another example: Mariah Carey was a brilliant singer, until she decided to go down hip-hop-ho lane.

Beyoncé has nothing on Carey in the whoring department. Though i share your take on Carey, post Music Box slutting her way into the hip-hop crowd churning out relentless derivative trash that in no way accentuates her admittedy rather spectacular vocal talents, in comparison Beyoncé has always played the sex symbol angle, since the days of Destiny's Child (also a rich source of samey, cut n paste tossbollocks), yet also sports a cracking voice, completely and utterly wasted on shite like this. Seriously hasn't girl power evolved above and beyond 'look at my ass and buy me things'? I can cope (considerably:)) well to her flashing her arse about with tracks like Irreplacable (brief hand-clap for some Nu Soul, with some actual bloody Soul it it!). Sex, after all, sells. however this brand of happy-clappy whirly noise shit to the comically oxymoron tune of treat me like a lady (while i act like a slag) is unbearable. Shameful, is what it is.

I think you hit the nail on the head by saying Beyoncé has a good voice but that it's wasted. That's exactly the thing I'm miffed about. I won't deny that she has a good voice and is a good singer, but why oh why does she continue to produce crap like this? The reason is probably because the commercial engine behind her decides what she should do, what she should sing, what she should say, how she should dress and how she should dance. If she'd break free of the commercial nonsense, she'd probably be a far more respectable singer than she is now. Right now, she's a great entertainer, just like Britney Spears was in her "good days". It's just that if Beyoncé tried to do something "real", something that comes from her heart and not from a dollar hungry songwriter's head, then she'd shine, I'm sure of that. So far, I just haven't seen much of that yet.
