2008 game top 3

Post by Plan B »

Bit naff perhaps, but what the hell, I'm just curious what games you guys enjoyed most this year.

For me:

1: Grid - Great handling (I know some disagree, but they're wrong) and great graphics at high frame rates. Best racing game I've played up till now
2: Dead Space - One of the few games that makes my hands sweat when playing. Sure it lends from other similar games, but it excels on all points
3: Braid - Brilliant in its simplicity. The Tetris of puzzle platforming

Gears of War 2
Fallout 2
Crysis Warhead

I spent a good 10 hrs on Fallout 3 before I got bored. Can't say the same for the other 2.

heh, i don't think i even played 3 2008 games. IIRC fallout3 and spore were the only new games i played this year and they were both disappointments.
how do you find time to play enough games as they're released to actually grade them?

Left 4 Dead
Quake Live
Grid

i pretty sure dead space would be on there instead of grid but i just never got around to getting and playing it. i didn't put GTA4 on there simply because the further i progressed in the game the more it felt like a chore to play. plus the replay value just wasn't there for me.

I was going to say ETQW, but realized that it's actually over a year old and I'm still playing it regularly.

Left 4 Dead
Dead Space
I can't really name a third, 2008 seems like a bit of a blur.

Was Grid really that good? I played the demo and found the handling physics to be a little over-the-top. I remember if you created too much oversteer during a touring car race, it would automatically spin the car, and stop responding to user input. I'm not sure if this was the same in the final version, but it pissed me off in the demo.

Fallout 3 is quite impressive
Guitar Hero World Tour is absolutely awesome as party game (till I get my hands on Rock Band 2)
Frenzic on the iPhone is an absolute time-waster and as addictive as Tetris (goddamnit)

Yeah, I know, but that's just part of the game.

You are forced to choose from a limited set of cars in each event.
In some you are going to have to manage with a shopping cart with a stuck wheel, and in some events you fly off with with a car that handles tight like a motherfucker.

Really, pick it up.

Whether or not you completely suck at it, it's still the best racing game of the year.
