16 (now 24) inches of snow in just over 24 hours

Post by tnf »

Since yesterday morning. Has gone on pretty much nonstop, I think we broke the 24 hour record we had set last year. Odd, we went so many winters here without shit for snow, and then last year end up with well over a foot on the ground, and now we've beat that in one day...and 4 more inches are still expected today. My camera was supposed to arrive by UPS today, but I don't see it happening. :(

Yesterday was a complete clusterfuck driving home. Going up a hill there were all sorts of cars stuck halfway and having to try to back down the hill or turn around on it...not easy with a lot of traffic. I weaved the WRX through all of them (I love subaru awd) and left a group of about 8 cars stuck behind me and didn't see one of them make it to the top of the hill in the entire 2 minutes I sat at the light at the top of it. (one guy was really pissed off because I cut him off and he lost his momentum, so he got stuck, but it was every man for himself out there.) City is pretty much at a standstill - no city buses, no nothing. I know how I could have prevented all this snow, too. If i would have bought the $1000 snowblower we were considering, I am certain we wouldn't have had one fucking flake.

Anyone else dealing with insane winter weather?

We're going to get a series of snowstorms over the next week. Environment Canada is calling it Snow-mageddon...

we've got about half that over here on the westside. the snow is not so bad, its the fucking wind coming down the frazier that makes it suck so much ass right now. wind chill has been around zero four of the last five days. when I got to work yesterday it was 43 degrees inside with the heat going full blast.

We didn't get a lot of snow, but we got freezing rain, so there was ice all over the roads and accidents everywhere.

we got our first batch of snow here in portland last sunday and it's been a mess ever since; snow and freezing rain on and off. mind you only a few inches hit the ground but it's been sticking around and turning into black ice since we've only had one day so far where the temps barely hit above freezing.

i live in an area with lots of hills and blind corners on those hills so it's scary as hell to go out driving anywhere, and that's only because of the idiots that freak out when driving in these conditions or simply don't understand how. i don't know how many times i've seen people slam on their brakes to stop from sliding out when the correct action is to power out. people stop on hills not realizing they'll slide backwards as soon as they apply power or similarly they'll fly down hills at an unsafe speed and then proceed to crawl up the hills barely making it to the top because they don't understand what momentum is.

Fuck, 24 inches now. Temps drop to 10 degrees tomorrow, 2 degrees on Saturday, then 6 more inches of snow expected on Sunday.

Borrowed a snowblower to clear off my driveway and made a run to the store, then got stuck in the neighborhood streets since none have been plowed. My car kept high centering...fucking mess. took almost 1.5 hours to go 2 blocks with lots of stops to dig the car out. City has essentially shut down. Big shopping malls closed at 1 pm, few stores open, hospitals, doctors offices, etc., all closed.

But my camera is in town now and should be here tomorrow according to UPS. I'll take some pics tomorrow.

24 Hour Precipitation Outlook

* 15-20 cm of snow from Thursday Overnight to Friday Evening.

Already got quite a bit of snow on Tuesday night. Hopefully this doesn't turn out to be the usual Environment Canada fear-mongering BS and we'll finally get a nice storm in the GTA
