Security was a big concert at FedEx Custom Critical when I was there. Certain high value and/or high security shipments were often targets for hijacking. Computer games, CDC/pharmaceuticals, military shipments, etc. The drivers were instructed to fill up their tanks before pickup and under no circumstances make any stops until at least 300 miles after leaving the pickup. Some loads required two drivers and/or armed drivers and/or satellite surveillance. They also did the decoy trick for certain loads. 3 or 4 trucks would be assigned and only one would be loaded. The drivers didn't know who would get it until loading time. Then they'd all leave together and take slightly different routes to the destination.
It only takes a missing truck or two of Viagra to make these procedures worthwhile.

Did the same thing at the pharmacuetical company I worked at for a bit. They made anthrax vaccine. Something like 4 trucks would go out for each shipment, only one with the stuff, drivers didn't know, etc...

We are pursuing several lines of inquiry into this question.
