Helpless JK2 Mapper Searches For Good Editor

Post by Treasure »

Hello you guys!
It has been quite for a while that i started mapping but then i had no time because of school. But now it is done and ive a lot of spare time and i decided to start anew. :)
Ive just some experience and id like to be a effecient mapper so i was lucky to find the "sample map" by q.
there it said link brushes by using func_group and i remembered that i often had problems with functions of the editor - for example func_group works at least with 1 version out of 3 that i use.
BTW im am a JEDI OUTCAST mapper !!! thats one of the problems because usually things don't work in the same manner in quake as in jk2. :(
Ive got:
Gtk Radiant 1.4.0 for id games (i dont use it)
Gtk Radiant 1.4.0 for Raven games
Gtk Radiant 1.5.0
JK2 Radiant
(enclosed in JK2 Editing tools - but it works to slow - but the only version in which func_group actually works)

My question to u is:
Which is/are the best editor/s out there? Maybe some of you have mapped for JK2 and can help me?

Help would be very appreciated. Oh sorry for he grammar mistakes im from germany :D

func_group doesn't actually do anything other than just making it easy to select a group of brushes together at the same time.

func_group definitely "works" in all editors you listed above, but keep in mind that the shortcut has changed depending on the version you are using.

In 1.4.0, it's Shift + Alt + Click one of the func_group brushes.

1.5.0, select brush and then hit Ctrl + Alt + E.

Personally, I've been using 1.4.0 for the longest time, but lately 1.5.0 has been growing on me and I have been using it almost exclusively unless I have some tricky brushwork to do.

If using 1.5.0, remember to download and install the appropriate Example Map files. These are actually the game packs that you will need to get for the editor to work appropriately for the game of your choice.

No, I think you just need the JK2-Example-Maps for Outcast as well as the latest version of GtkRadiant (which I assume you have already).

One tip for future:
There is nice JKII section over LevelMakers, where you should find answers for your problems :)
