that was awesome, as much as i hate that "skyline", that was a GREAT lap.
seeing him have to manhandle the wheel a little shows the weight of the car, but the rest of the time it seemed ON, and him diving into those Carolcells was awesome..
he basically Dove into the damned things.
nice to see, i would like to see if i can find a beter quality video, maby one without the Honduh's in the back revving and shit, and not to mention the Glare off of the LCD. :/

Re: car porn
yes, that, and the fact that they got rid of the RB series motor.. that was the Stone that made that car bulletproof.
i understand that they went to the VQ series, but the power output and the Block strength just isnt the same, Now with this VQ thats in there they may have addressed those issues ( Hopefully ) But in the end, i dont think it will be on Par with the RB's.
anyway, at the end of the day, it reminds me to much of a Z/G35 to be something that i would consider special.

Re: car porn
Isn't new GT-R off the showroom floor is making pretty close to the (peak)horsepower in stock form then the typical RB stand before rebuilding the engine? Maybe after that kind of work the RB(block) could have an inherit advantage.. Key word "maybe" as we haven't testest the limitations of Nissan/cosworth's VQ. I think the displacement disadvantage the RB engines have over the VQ would make whatever durability advantage it may have far less relevant for the vast majority of hot rodders(with money).. I mean if the new VQ38dett(or whatever they call it) really is a downgrade I can't imagine it would be enough for it to be remotely meaningful for anyone but the few shops building nolimit 1LAP wonder cars.
At the very least, I think it is a tad early to question the marrits of this engine.

i agree, however the VQ has been out for (almost) as long as the RB series in the Fairlady/300ZX in Turbo form.c0ld wrote:Isn't new GT-R off the showroom floor is making pretty close to the (peak)horsepower in stock form then the typical RB stand before rebuilding the engine? And people have pulled power of the things, but more people have also cracked the block and chewed through headgaskets.
so yeah, if you put some nice Studs in the head holding down a nice headgasket ( metal or not ) and addressed fuel/cooling/timing you can get some reliable power out of it...
a RB26DET/DETT can put up with upwards of 800HP on stock internals wile Fueling/Cooling/timing needing to be adressed.
But the thing still holds the 1400HP Mark for a inline 6, top secret is to thank with that one.
it should be interesting, but honestly, i'de pick up a RB series long before the VQ.
i was coing to get a CA18DET for my S13 Coupe a wile ago, due to the motor being the building blocks of the RB.
the car had other plans however ( rotting ).... :/

car looks like it hates the karussell... though for a 4wd car It was impressive that it was so tail happy on exit.

There wasn't a turbo VQ in the Z cars, that was a VG. That said, and I forgot about this, but I believe the engine in the GT-R isn't a VQ, isn't called the VR?(VR38dett). I don't know of the major differences between them though.
And I've yet to see a non dyno-queen rb make 800hp on stock internals. In fact it seem's the general conscious among the GT-R communities is that reliably using low 500hp~ will require work.
I have no horse in the race though, as I come from the 4age camp(nicknamed as the rolling chicanes by everyone else) , which was pissed on when the executed when the 2zz came into production and defecated on by an unenthusiastic subaru effort.

And these Nurburgring times are becoming such a joke. There is no question the car is fast but come on.

Oh well, I cant wait to see what the Vspec will be doing, last I heard they some how dropped 300lb's off of it as well as gave it another 80hp! That thing will fly.

And I'm really digging the way they look in white.

I just can't make myself like that.
It's just hideous imo, and, like most cars, even worse in white.

Hummm, i dont remember it being referred to as a VG, it could very well be.. the Fairlady's wernt my thing, i was more into the S13's With CA18DET/SR20DET'sc0ld wrote: There wasn't a turbo VQ in the Z cars, that was a VG. So i could very well be off with that information, but according to wiki, i'm not that far off

Meh, anyway, it will be interesting to see how the new Skyline plays out.. i've allways wanted them to bring one to Northamerica, and more to the point, Canada. But when i saw this, i was more Dissipointed, and the more i read the more dissipointment came long with it.It is often possible to produce 600hp without modification of the engine internals (by use of larger turbocharger, and either keeping the stock twin turbo arrangement, or using a single turbocharger). With extreme modification, the RB26 motor is capable of power in excess of 1 megawatt (or over 1,340 hp).
Btw, 4AG? What did you have it in? Mr2? AEXX/X?

The 599GTB is indeed rolling sex. The truly fucked up concept in this thread is someone not appreciating front-engined Ferraris. I mean honestly...

no big deal, someone not into cars chooses to participate in the thread and that's the outcome.

Yep. But that's not what happened in this particular thread.

how can you be disappointed in a car that is cheaper than a Z06 yet annihilates a 911 turbo on track?AmIdYfReAk wrote: Meh, anyway, it will be interesting to see how the new Skyline plays out.. i've allways wanted them to bring one to Northamerica, and more to the point, Canada. my only complaint with the car is I wish it was about 800 lbs lighter... it's a bit of a cow... a very fast cow that is.

Loosing the Progressive styling from the other Skylines ( Seeing the changes from the R32 R33 and R34 ), it dosnt look at bad ass as the R34, that thing looks fucking sinister.
And ditching the RB power plant.
The rest of it is fine, i guess...
i'de still do away with Hicas ( the all wheel steering System ) But keep the Altezz system ( AWD ), and as per any skyline, the complaint has allways been weight, but thats also what defines the car.
the R34 was a pig, but that fucking pig could move! take turns, and do out with the rest of them... the only thing that i couldnt handle was Tight technial turns, the rest of the time it didnt show its weight to much.
edit: Fucking sinister..

Re: car porn

Sounds like you're just making the same arguments everyone does who is hesitant to accept progress.
even styling wise, it's pretty evolutionary. The only radical change is the headlights and sides. And personally I think those changes make the car look more like a sports car and less like a sedan... a good thing.

Re: car porn
i'm not hesident to change, its just overall my Favourite styling is the R33, wile the R34 takes the Mechanical First place ( Due to the Hydrolic Hicas, and LSD's with motor revisions ), and the styling 2nd place..
the "r35" reminds me to much of the G35/350Z instead of its own defined car.

Yes we must all worship to every thing the big F makes or we aren't in to cars.

It's a good thing I didn't mention my opinion about the Ferrari SUV..

But I do disagree about them being FR F-cars being the better looking ones with the exception of the 250GT0, and I do dig the other vintage ferrari's as well, but I also like MGB's, spitfires and the like. lol
That said..

I rest my case.
Unfortunately they aren't cheaper then a z06 on paper or in the real world, they were supposed to be marked just a little higher then the listed price for the z06. I've even seen some new z06's flying out of the dealers are in the mid/low 60k range. Where I believe nissan recently set the GT-R(base) at around 80k(which contradicts their site but...), and that isn't even mentioning the raping people are subjecting themselves to with the dealer markups which seems to be in the 120k range. :xMeh, anyway, it will be interesting to see how the new Skyline plays out.. i've allways wanted them to bring one to Northamerica, and more to the point, Canada. IC, well if you are in Canada at least you are lucky enough to be able to get the earlier r32's(which I blindly prefer).

Still though, once the hype dies off this car will be an amazing vehicle for the money. Hopefully Nissan sells enough of them here so that they don't be come another Supra(ie over-priced on used market, few and far between and rarely ever seen used on a track).
Anyway this thread needs something less pretentious.. hmm needs more TVR.

There's a TVR T350c two-tone in Ripon where I used to work. Looks even better irl than the pic.
