Q3shw22: Simple brushes - Final

Post by ShadoW_86 »

Q3shw22: Simple brushes

My new Quake 3 map :). Builded with Cpma in mind, for tournament game. This map was made in completely different way from my last map (Destroyer), that's mean, it will be very simple in brushwork and graphics elements, and I'll focus on pure gameplay. After playing quite few hours I noticed that I like 2v2 cpma game most on this map. So I strongly recommend you to try this out! :)

Beta1

This release is just to show that I'm doing something, it's almost not cliped, light is not edited, and generaly it's very raw version. I'm hope to get some feedback mostly on gameplay, and then I will take care of other things.

Beta 2 changes:

-second YA added
-Light fixes
-clips added
-small fx addition

The most important change from previous version, is of course another one YA placed on the map. For me it changed gameplay almost completely. Now whole map is being used during fight. Some might not agree with way I located this second YA (it's quite near first one), but I played this map quite long, and think it came interesting. I was affraid of map be not balanced with 2xYA on one side, and MH on other one, but it's ok.

I popped 5 bots and played it for a while. It feels kind of wide open in ways, but with each level of it being so much higher up from the next one, becomes the only thing that provides alot of cover. Also with the height of each level, makes you take alot of drops making you lose energy..and with that there isn't enough health to pick up between it being wide open on top of that. It'd be nice if you put a halfway stepping stones in parts from level to level so you can drop down halfway and not lose energy all the time. The item layout kind of feels like a tourney map in ways.

It's nice to see another map using the eX texture pack!! I love them :D Kind of makes the file huge though.

But it is tourney map !!! :) This map was planned and builded for Cpma 1v1 game, and I never even though about other game types :). Anyway, thanks for interest :sly:

Beta 2 added

Edit: I've just played few Cpma 2v2 matches, and that was fu#### intense. You definitely should try this type of gameplay!

The added YA is nice. I forgot to mention something before, about the MH area. I was wondering if you'd think about adding a slanted spot on one of the walls to be able to double jump off of to get up rather than having to use the crates to get up. The crates work, but it takes more time to get up that way. I'm not sure whether you want it that way to make a player more open for attack or not, or to make getting the MH more work to pick-up?

Indeed. And nobody else tests as many maps as V|L3 does - and he's on dial-up I think.

..and yeah..Dial Up SUCKS!! The best you can get is an instagib server that is close to home...as rockets and LG kills the connection on dial-up..even at r_picmip 1000! The last time I played on broadband, I was playing on ffdm2 with apheleon, putty and some other dudes on CPMA 0.99z3. These days I test and collect maps..I have like 1200 of them..keeps me busy I guess. Helps to keep Q3 Goin ;)
