Fucking hell, people pay £20 for a dvd that lasts 2 hours without blinking an eye.
Think how much use you've had out of your Quake 3 discs for a measly £30
Games lose their value at retail after a couple months anyway.
You can get quality stuff like Call of Duty and Painkiller for under £20 and older games like Half Life for a measly 10 sheets.
Piss cheap compared to other media considering what you get for your money.
Shit I remember paying £60 for Street Fighter 2: SCE on my Megadrive
And that was with fucking pocket money

Get a job I say :)
no.. pc games are and always have been pretty perfectly priced IMO.
console games have gotten a bit out of whack... but i guess they charge $70 simply because the demand for console titles is higher... ergo higher equilibrium retail price.

and by simple supply and demand economics that runs the free market of capitalism, if anything piracy is keeping prices lower.
if they know a price hike will cause more people to pirate, they will keep prices at an acceptable level.

$50 for a new release is not price gouging.

those complaining about game prices and dvd prices need to get a job.

cd's should be about $10 USD.

carry on.

what i love, is a lot of time you see the people bitching about it while sittling behind their killer cpu with a 400 dollar graphics card, 21 in. monitor, cdr, dvr, 87 gigs of ram, and 50 bucks a mo. broadband connection. yeah, games are spendy, but ffs, just stay home for a couple of nights instead of going out with your buddies and BAM! you have a new copy of assblasters3D.

Got one. Thanks. :icon31:

Ok, maybe I was stretching it a bit on the DVDs, but cds are definately overpriced. I mean it has exactly the same content as the other music media with slightly better sound and twice the price. Games I won't really complain about because I willingly pay full price on some of them without waiting for the price to go down. Plus they really haven't gone up over the years.

oops, i didn't realize that was you that posted re: the dvd pricing. wubs?

a <$20 dvd is a bargain, imo, considering the amount of content and generally good to excellent picture/sound quality that you get.

cd's on the other hand, are certainly overpriced. they're on par with SACD's, DVDA's, and Hybrids' price point. ridiculous.

Scourge, explain what you mean by " it has exactly the same content as the other music media with slightly better sound and twice the price"?

Lets put this way for once.... Say "youi" are a software developer and you have just finished coding your game.... This game has taken you two long years to write and you have no income. You have invested alot of time and money into making your dream come true.

Now you want to get it released to the public so you can finally get paid for all the hard work you have just put in over those two long years.

Then some kid downloads it and cracks it. Shares it with the world and you don't get a dime.

How whould you feel? Would you feel ripped off?

tapes.....

oh yeah, those.

cd's were meant for people that want their music to sound the same after the 100th time playing it. obviously it's cheaper to manufacture which should make it cheaper than tapes were back in the day. so much for that.

they are going to say no anyways. or use some argument like "the publishers get all the money and not the game programmers"

which are both weak arguments.

thats making a broad assumption that 100% of the people who use your software obtained the cracked release.
which makes it pretty impossible to create a strong argument against your initally weak and flawed logic.
