Paypal question

Post by 7zark7 »

I'm signing up for a Paypal account.... but I find it kinda odd that they want my bank account information, and no option to just use my credit card info. I don't really feel all that comfortable giving out that kind of information...Anyone else here have a paypal account?

yeah.. i havent made a new account any time recently.. but when i created it, i didnt need a credit card or a bank account. afterwards they let me add a credit card. and then months later they gave the option for a bank account addition.

maybe there is a way to skip it. tried emailing them?

why not? works well for ebay and quite a few people require it. bit faster than sending in a money order as well. you know, they can be "lost" in the mail and all that.. lol

I guess I'll email them and ask why I can't just use my credit card.

Ya, I made an account way back in the day, but haven't used it in years. Can't even remember what info they asked for. I don't remember giving them my bank account number though...

But ya, they can be trusted. Its a well known company...

Paypal have a rep for suspending accounts with little grounds and seizing all funds therein.

well, when you make an account it takes a few days to "veridy" your address... not sure how they do it, but it has to be done before you can use it to buy i believe... depends on the ebay seller i suppose, as to wether or not they want it verified. might want to check before you waste your time.

I use it for everything. I have a Paypal debit card that routes all transactions through them before pulling the money out of my bank account. Not only does it provide a nice layer of security should that card number be compromised but I get 1% cash back on all purchases. Its not much but it beats using a plain old debit card from my bank.

I also use it whenever I buy things online (which is pretty frequently) because its so fast and easy. WoW even lets me pay my monthly charge using Paypal.

crazy. iirc ebay people like it because it's fast, but many hate it because it's really easy to get screwed... as in, if the person doesn't ship your item after you pay you're usually out of luck unless they're stupid enough to leave the money sitting there in their paypal acct. most euros prefer direct bank transfers though and almost never accept paypal anymore, and certainly not CC payments, as there are fees involved supposedly.
i do, for the record, have both a checking acct and a CC linked to my paypal acct.

Thats why you should only buy from reputable sellers on ebay!! Always check feedback comments and seller rating. I have had a paypal account for years with it linked to my bank account and a backup credit card for years and have never had a problem. I would never buy anything off ebay without it as it adds an extra layer of security and insurance just in case you buy something off a fucking toe-rag!!

Paypal is evil. Go ahead and sign up, but avoid using them at all costs.

Oh, and to lend myself some credibility:
Although PayPal's corporate headquarters are located in San Jose, PayPal’s operations center is located near Omaha, Nebraska...

I haven't had any problems with paypal either. I use it alot for ebay. I don't keep any money in the paypal account itself. I have paypal pull the money directly from my checking account.

Zark you set up Paypal with your bank account, but you can change your primary payment method to a credit credit card of your choice.

Paypal wants your bank info to make sure they get the money you spend.

Same here. Have never had a problem and its a hell of a lot more comfortable than handing out my credit card numbers to online Ebay sellers.
