Anybody who uses a Zune
Anybody who uses a Zune
A client of mine gave me an 8gb zune today as a gift, it seems pretty cool. However, I'm trying to get my music on this (I use iTunes) and the fucking Zune software isn't reading my ID3 tags correctly, forcing me to go through and try and correct everything. Why the fuck can't this software read ID3 tags? Any work arounds to fix this, or simply use different software to move the music to it?
Re: Anybody who uses a Zune
In before debate regarding relative merit of the Zune.
Re: Anybody who uses a Zune
Wow, this fucking thing doesn't even have support for asian characters... if this wasn't free I'd return it.

Re: Anybody who uses a Zune
I fucking staying up until 5:30 trying to get this thing working so I don't have to read heiroglyphic squares, but apparently I just acn't do it. hopefully the fucking cockheads at MS will add unicode support some fucking time soojn
Re: Anybody who uses a Zune
If you did the ID3 tags properly the first time, the zune software would of seen it right.
Unicode, no idea on tho.
Ex Zune owner. 80Gig Ipod is so much nicer.

Re: Anybody who uses a Zune
Lack of unicode support, aka "no idea," is why it won't work...SOAPboy wrote:If you did the ID3 tags properly the first time, the zune software would of seen it right.

Re: Anybody who uses a Zune
I could probably return it to some store in the box for store credit w/o recipt, and buy an iPod nano from them instead... the zune software is fucking horrendous, but the stubbornness in me makes me want to wait for a hack for unicode support + iTunes support

Re: Anybody who uses a Zune
I've spent quite a bit of time over the years fixing ID3 tags.. now, any tags that are not correct I can simply get Windows Media Player 11 to fix.
So, I like my 30 Gb Zune
... I got the brown one $50 cheaper than the blue/black one. I REALLY dislike itunes and the ipod.

Lots of people have plenty of good reasons for disliking iPods and iTunes. Does it bother you?
Re: Anybody who uses a Zune
Not really. It's just amusing that they (nerds) tend to go on to recommend either some clunky piece of shit that, despite the fact that i'm terminally style-challenged, I wouldn't be seen dead with, or an iPod clone

Re: Anybody who uses a Zune
Everybody has their own tastes, so things I dislike will probably be points others like. For me though:
-overpriced
-styling is meh
-too thin -- difficult to use confidently w/ one hand
-screen quality isn't as good as some other brands
-the sheeple effect -- I admit it freely, that's a big turnoff.
-doesn't support enough formats
-no equalizer (don't know if that's changed)
-no fm or voice recorder
I'm not saying it sucks. I just happen to believe there are much better options. Don't want to turn this into a fanboy war, though.
As for iTunes... yeah. I don't think I need to defend myself on that one.

heh, i was hoping Starshrieker would pipe in since he purchased a Zune and dislikes the iPod so much. i agree with most of your post tho, werdheld, except for:
stying - sleek and simple. kind of sano.
no eq - eq? pfft.
no fm/voice recorder: i have both in my cell, no need on my DAP

I love iTunes. I mean, love it. It's not just a music player, it's an all in one music OS. I would probably have sex with iTunes if I could figure it out.
Re: Anybody who uses a Zune
First you have to chose which services you want to have sex with (photos, music, podcasts, etc). Then you just have to hit the "Burning Hunk O'Love" icon and iTunes has sex with you. It Just Works™
Re: Anybody who uses a Zune
That is the first genuine lol I have gotten from the internet all day. Thank you.
Re: Anybody who uses a Zune
iTunes on Windows is a bad experience. It's slow and I have to restart it every day at work if anyone had connected to my library the night before. It's about as flawless as it gets on OS X. I wish it supported FLAC or at least had some kind of plugin architecture that made adding support simpler, but that's not a deal breaker.
As far as being for "sheeple," the same could be said for wearing clothes or eating.

Re: Anybody who uses a Zune
The zune doesn't have an equalizer. The thing is, I really like iTunes, it works. All my music is organized perfectly, the smart playlists are great and useful, and it's a nice clean interface. The problem is that the Zune forces you to use their proprietary software to load it- the ipod does as well, but people actually use iTunes to play music and most importantly, iTunes works. The zune software doesn't even read ID3 tags properly, it will split your correctly tagged album into 8 other albums with different artists, and then assign it the wrong artwork. Best of all, you can't edit the tags with the program effeciently, and if you do, the tags aren't saved to the mp3, they're saved to the Zune software's library- so if you wipe your library, or reinstall, you're back to square 1 with annoying incorrectly tagged music. There's loads to bitch about, but the bottom line is that the Zune's software end interface is fucking inexcusably bad.
