Super Smash Brothers Brawl

Post by tnf »

This game is getting huge reviews and is supposed to be a blast multiplayer.
I've always hated (and sucked horribly at) traditional button mashing/complicated combo requiring fighting games (with things like X,X,Y,Y,half circle CCW, full circle CW, L,R,LB,RB,up, up, down, down to pull of a punch).

Is Smash Brothers like this or is it something that's good fun for everyone even if they aren't good at fighting games?

I don't know about brawl, but I loved Super Smash Bros. It wasn't so much of a "code punch" game as a timing game and using the environment and taking advantage of situations. There's aren't any button combinations more complex than 2 buttons, its all about combos and learning timing and dodging. Way different than you're mortal combats.

Once again, this was the last generation, and I always played with about 5 or 6 guys that loved playing the game. I'm not sure about brawl, tho I'm curious about the solid snake character.

I was marth in SSB

Oh, and in direct response to your last question, it is neither. It's not like a virtua figher or a mortal combat, but it also isn't "good fun" for someone not good at fighting games. When me and the other 4 or 5 guys started playing, the guy who owned the game was fucking good and destroyed us every time. It took learning the game and playing a bit, like any other game, to get as good as him.

We also played a select few levels too. Most of the moving levels in SSB fucking sucked. We played like 3 or so, and every once in a while mixed in another one only to remember why we didn't play it. Hopefully they have some decent levels in this one.

It's not like traditional fighters. Basically, if its anything like the others, you have a normal attack button, and a special move button. special move button does different shit when you combine it with a direction. up + special usually does an upwards attack and serves as a last ditch effort to get back on the map. down + special usually will do like a downward ground pound type of attack. all intuitive and shit.

Smash Bros is very, very easy to learn, probably easier than most conentional fighters like Tekken or Mortal Kombat. However, to truely master the game is really hard. It's a schoolbook example of "easy to learn, hard to master".

of all the fighters out there it's probably the most accesible and easy to have fun with...assuming you're playing with peeps on the same skill level. if you play with a person who has a constant raging boner for this game then they will own you so hard you'll never want to play the game again. i was a smash bros. nut back in the day and the only reason i stopped playing was because i couldn't find anyone who would want to play me cuz i was one of those boner peeps.

it's good for some mindless multiplayer party fun but beyond that it can get rather dull.

Fury is one of those boner peeps, which made playing the game less than appealing for me. Some of my other friends were gluttons for punishment, though, so they all play more than I do.

I guess I never really got into it.

I used the wiimote and nunchuk. I'm not some hardcore fantasy cartoon fighting game pro so I'm not really worried about the elite control functions I'll need to harness in order to be Hurihomo the japanese schoolboy who plays Smash Brothers for a living.

Glad I have 4 wave birds locked away, they were selling them off at the local Game Station for £1 a pop, and i instantly thought "fuck this, i'll take 3" (Had one already.

I doubt those things go for £1 in the real world, knowing how rare they are.

yeah, if you don't need the wireless just get a regular gc controller. its the easiest to use. and better than the classic wii pad attachment.

I've been playing this since it got leaked/came out in asia somewhere on my mate's chipped Wii. If you've played smash bros on cube it's pretty much exactly the same, but they're adjusted the combos. Also, new characters like sonic and pit (link, but with wings).

Anyway, this is going to usher in a new era of getting drunk/stoned with mates and wasting an entire night in front of smash bros. You'll really want to use GC or these wavebird controllers, we usually only ever use the wiimote as a handicap but it works too effectively.

Also, what the hell how is this forum still here and why are you all still here? Surely whoever owns this place these days has noticed you here.
