Yesterday i orderd a sony dcr-trv270 camcorder, to shoot the good times with thought i'd share it and get some opinions.
can't find any good specs i can post here, so heres a link: http://audiovisual.kelkoo.co.uk/b/a/ps_ ... 23501.html
It's pretty big, but i don't really care about it. whats cool is the lens (seems to be top-notch), Infrared-taping (so you can tape at all ur parties!!) and good quality digital8 tapes.Got it for 295 euros, expecting it this sat-r-day or monday.
Sony makes great camcorders, but you should have gotten a MiniDV model... it would have been much smaller, and the picture quality would have been better. They're only $50-100 more.
really??? i read that the digital 8 were the finest quality and they almost all have the same lens (carl-zeiss). ill read up on that, thnx for the heads up :icon24:

yeah the 3ccds are awesome, unfortunately a bit too pricy for me too :/.
edit: wow thats a frikkin pro cam. you do commercial stuff, or just a out of control hobby? seems very nice, be sure to post some footage if you get em :icon14:

I will be attending film school in about few months. Need a good one, the only gripe is that Canon GL2's CCD's are only 1/4". Wish they were 1/3" like Sony's.

how come you prefer canon's high grade cams over sony's then? Some trinket the sonies dont have? (i dont know much about these cams, i only checked the 200-1000 euro range)

Better low-light performance, and plus it's almost $500 USD cheaper.

It's not a huge difference, but Digital8 is 290k, and MiniDV is 340k.
The lens doesn't matter -- it's the type of CCD. (Well, it matters for image quality, but not for MiniDV vs. Digital8).
The biggest reason I'd avoid D8 is that the cameras are huge. Most MiniDV's are about half the size. D8 is a dying technology, really... it was made to replace Hi8 back when digital camcorders were first coming out. MiniDV is the newest format.

i thought the res was 350k? well i can always cancel my order, so im def'ly willing to check out some other cams. you got any MiniDV cams you can recommend?
few criteria:
-infrared nightshot (musthave, i hate the choppy non-functional nightshot)
-i dont need many functions like dv in, photos so if theres a cam with less of that and less money its perfect.
-good stamina
so, you got any?
thnx m8 i checked the cams out, now i found the HC17 (the same as the HC19 and HC22(which i think is the european eq of the HC21) but without remote/dv-in).
So now im looking at either the DCR-TRV270 (295euro) or the DCR-HC17(375euro)
i like the smaller form, but i don't care 70e for it, does the better recording quality cut it? What exactly is de difference anyway?
When I was looking, I considered the DCR-HC21 and the $300 Digital8. I was sold once I went into the store and saw the difference between them. The color and sharpness is far better on the MiniDV model (as with most of them). There was no comparison. It's partly the media and partly the camera. In any case, as long as I was spending $300, I figured I'd spend $400 for something that's (in my book) at least twice as good.
The 21 is NTSC. I'm not sure what the PAL version of it is. 22 sounds right.
Take the time to try them out in person, don't just buy online.

yeah definitely. did the same with the trv270 etc, but i didnt consider the HC series.. overlooked em i guess .
Couldn't find the HC21 here, so i suppose the 22 is the same yeah. Seems an a-ok cam, definitely gonna check it out, thanx :icon14:
