hence the word "represent."
also, it doesn't really matter which side of the flag you're looking at, because in that picture you're looking at this side of it. if the flags are also on the other side of the plane, i imagine they are mirrored there (i.e. US flag has the blue & stars toward the front of the plane). you just picture the flag pole in front of them, with the flag streaming behind them, and they look normal, no?
