I think it really adds to the fun to have at least some sane people on your team, so I thought we could maybe exchange our player names.
You should maybe add a note that indicates at least which continent you're from for this to make any sense. I'm from europe, gmt+1. My in-game name is spirit.
@admins: Please don't move this post to another forum, it's adressed at the guys in the mapping/modelling forum, not all of q3w. Thanks and sorry for the off-topic thread.
Since I only noticed myself a couple of weeks back, it's probably worth pointing out that there's a place on your Q3W profile to enter your ETQW name. It makes a magic button appear above your posts pointing to the stats site so everyone can laugh at you for sucking.
Does anyone know how far behind the actual stats the site lags? Mine is never anywhere near up to date with what it says in game.
I've been playing the beta's and demo with DooMer, Puff, Shaft and a few other people from Q3W. We own. Hands down. Especially at trash talking noobs so much so that we totally demoralized a BF2 clan into a bunch of crying weenies. I've seen Survivor online and played a few matches with him as well. We meet up on IRC at quakenet on the quake3world channel.
I don't have the retail yet, but I do have it preordered for the North American release date. I went by the name Meridianox for the betas, Obsidian for the demo and I registered 0bsidian (with a zero) for the retail.
The stats site seems to be accurate for the beta as far as I can tell, though there were a few tracking issues. DooMer never did get his stats working. I'm guessing they fixed that. Keep in mind that you actually have to join a ranked server for it to keep track of your stats.
Also, playing on ranked servers generally sucks since it's typically full of people who are what I call "XP Farming". They are more interesting in doing just the things that they need to gain XP rather than actually helping the team. You'll have 10 snipers and no one taking the objectives. That will probably improve in time as the noobs get culled off by the more talented players. The noobs won't be sticking around for much longer anyway, the way we're owning them. They'll run and cry their way back to playing BF2.

or should i wait for UT2K7/TF2?
That depends on what kind of games floats your boat. IMO, it's a worthy successor to Wolf:ET and I'm pretty much hooked. I actually like it better than Wolf:ET since it ties in with the Quake Universe and there seems to be more technical challenges. ETQW takes a little persistence to get used to but it really grows on you once you've figured out how to play one or two of the classes. Then you have the other 10 classes (5 for each team) to master, so it's not one of those games that you pick up and drop after a few weeks of playing.
I can't stand anything other than the original UT, the rest were just gimmicky spamfests. UT2K3 sucked and I felt ripped off when I bought UT2K4 only to find out that it was basically a large patch for UT2K3 with the onslaught gametype tacked on that they charged the full price for. All the UE3 engine games I've played so far (Bioshock, MoH: Airborne) also performs really poorly so I don't think I'll be buying UT3.
wydDooMer. The maps are pretty varied, with a lot of unique objectives other than the standard hack, destroy, and build. If you don't like vehicles, theres some good infantry based maps. One even does away with vehicles completely. Haven't come across any xp farmers yet, just general noobiness.
I never played W:ET, but I've seen a lot of complaints of (former) W:ET-players on the ETQW forums. I can understand them in a certain way, but on the other hand the question that interests is rather "Is $class useless/obviously over-/under-powered?" than "Is $class different from $class in another game?".
It's a matter of taste, of course. For me, the only real problem with the game is that it keeps me from doing stuff I should do.

they ruined the field ops class, and the vehicles feel really bad (yeah I know there are some maps with less of an emphasis on vehicle gameplay)
I'm gonna keep at it to see if I start to like it better, but honestly so far I'd say I enjoy playing TF2 a whole lot more
Yarp TF2 is a better game over all, feels a lot more polished. I tried ETQW with some guys at work when the demo came out and people were looking forward to the retail game, but when the TF2 beta came out, people forgot about ETQW and didn't even realise it was released....
I like ETQW but I have already played it for 2 years, I think it has lost it's fun factor. TF2 is a bit better in the end.

You mean 2 months, don't you?
Had a look at the TF2 website. It looks really different and funny, but it's not for me. Can't even stand cell shaded graphics in q3a, not to mention cartoon style 3d games.

No I mean 2 years.... I was a level designer on the project.

Two guys playing TF2 at the office... kinda... it's not about Quake Wars quality, it's because TF2 is a mainstream valve game, like comparing Quake3 and BF2, BF2 is by far the the biggest game.
The entire office here at Red 5 has been playing TF2 nonstop since the orange box beta preorder became available... I've been trying to convince people to try ETQW with me some more, but without much luck. And I have to say I'm honestly not surprised... speaking strictly from a gameplay perspective, TF2 is a very nearly perfect game; it belongs right up there with the likes of Quake III Arena and Street Fighter III Third Strike. ETQW is decent; not nearly as good as Wolf:ET, but better than BF2 I'd say.
@Zombie13: K, I guess it would also bore me after 2 years.
@rgoer: Maybe I'll give it a try. I won't play it, I know, but let's say I'm interested to start it once to have a short look. I can't play games which have an art style I don't like at all. I get the demo, think "Nice game, plays good - but looks strange" and never start them again. Gothic (2, 3?) was an example for this, others include Halflife 2 and Bioshock.
Where do you get that beta? Couldn't find a word about it on that strange "orange box" website (what's that? simply some games in a box?). Do only people who preordered the game get the beta?

It does not. FortressForever is much closer to that crowd...
