Haven't used Radiant in a while

Post by Grudge »

Hello everyone. Ok, so I just installed GTKRadiant 1.5.0, but it's been a while since I last used it (a couple of years) and this new version lacks some things I was used to having.

For example, didn't there use to be some kind of "legacy" camera mode that worked just like old qeradiant, where you could hold the right mouse button and coast around in the map? I've never liked this newfangled mouselook kind of view, is it the only way now?

Also, what happened to the narrow Z-only view window (usually to the left of the standard xy-view)? The "YZ (Side) view" doesn't work the same way, since it won't constrain the brushes so that you always have them in view which is annoying since you have to pan in the Y dimension all the time?

Btw, what do you guys think about the chances that there will be a proper Q3 revival now that id will be releasing it for free? It would be great if Q3 mapping did take off again and spawn a new generation of Q3 mappers, wouldn't it?

IMO the last 1.5.0 nightly builds are way superior to it's predecessors :)

The z-only was "rationalized" some time ago, but it's really the only thing I'm still missing. But Ctrl-Tab also works very well.

Dunno what you mean with the camera mode. I like it the way it is. You move around like you do in quake, pretty neat. Else you can hold ctrl or even ctrl+shift to map the mouse movement on the camera.

Ah, I see you can use the arrow keys, nice I didn't know that. That makes it a lot easier, thanks.

With the old camera you could just hold down right mouse button and depending on how far from the center of the window you moved the mouse, the faster you moved in the 3d view. It was very practical.

I hated the QeRadiant camera controls.

I don't think there was any way to revert back to QeRadiant from GtkRadiant controls.

I've only recently been getting back into Radiant as well. I had a funny chat with Kat where he couldn't remember how to normalize colour values and I couldn't remember how to bring up GtkRadiant's colour selector.
