Not to defend Bush's foreign policy at all...but...I was noticing that I read about and see Sunni's and Shiites killing each other all the time, nonstop it would seem. You really need to get a clue as do a lot of people about the reality of somewhere like Zimbabwae. Yeah, a lot of colonialism was awful, brutal, unfair and so on but you know what? The vast majority of the real bastards who made a packet doing this don't live in Africa, they didn't put down roots and invest themselves, their time and money in Africa. Now the people who moved out there much later and invest their lives in building, teaching, creating jobs and wealth get labelled as colonial overlords. They're not, they're hard working immigrants who make more wealth than the locals because they're better educated (access to education in places like Zimbabwae is limited, especially when goons like Mugabe close down the university) and work damn hard. It's those people who's farms were stolen and who's food and jobs were holding the country and currency together. Look at it now.

The land grab is no different to an imaginary situation where the American government suddenly deciding that immigrant Chinese or Indians have too much wealth and property and redistributed it. There's no justification beyond cheap, short-term political gains for Mugabe. You don't really think he cares for his people, the people he has beaten murdered and is causing to starve?

There were of course residual wrongs and imbalances in the ownership of property, this was being righted by money from the British government that was legally buying back land for the blacks to balance things out, that method might not be perfect in the abstract but compare the outcome (increased black ownership + healthy country) to what has infact happened.

Put your blatant prejudices of my beliefs aside and understand this: I did not say that all Africans are stupid. I said that many Africans are stupid. Were there not many Africans at that conference? Were they applauding a man that has completely fucked up his country? HEY GUESS WHAT? THAT MAKES THEM STUPID IN MY BOOK.
