lol, jesus, shut the hell up. The microwave PRODUCES STANDING WAVES TO COOK THINGS, YOU FUCKING IDIOT.riddla wrote:this isnt entirely untrue. A magnetron without any object to absorb the radiation can produce a standing wave which can actually cause a plasma fire, which is exactly why some people place a glass of water in the microwave, especially when microwaving smaller items.Nightshade wrote:When I was in high school my friend's parents had a microwave and they always kept a glass of water in it. Their explanation was that they wanted something in the microwave to 'absorb the radiation and prevent a fire breaking out' if the microwave mystically turned itself on. This was something they were quite convinced could actually happen.
Did I mention that they were morons?

I agree. We'll use the microwave for 2 - 3 minutes to cut down the cooking time in the oven, but if you cook them completely in the microwave, they taste like shit.+JuggerNaut+ wrote:ew.ajerara wrote:they're great for cooking yams or potatoes, 10 minutes and they're done.

yep. those done entirely in the microwave are more steamed than anything else. if you like that instead of a baked potato or yam though, have at it.

The only thing I ever use my microwave for, is popping corn.
I remember once trying to reheat pizza, I placed it in a decorated ceramic plate. And the microwave started shooting lightning bolts at it. I thought the thing was going to blow up, because it turns out the plate had some gold or copper on it, used for decoration.
However, the pizza turned out all stale and wet.

Microwave burritos? They make those?
I only use the microwave to reheat and defrost stuff.
I put an A&W hamburger inside a microwave to reheat. I forgot the bags are lined with metal foil. The bag burned and sparked partially away but the hamburger was spared.

Now, on a different note, toaster ovens are a different story.
Re: Do you "nuke" your food?
I use it to heat some stuff up once in a while or to make some popcorn. That's about it. I don't reheat pizza, spaghetti, mac'n'cheese, or fried chicken. I like them cold.
