Trees, bushes and other textures

Hi all,

I have been playing with the Q4 editor, working out what I can do through all the excellent tutorials here and following links..

I would like to add a few simple trees and a bit of grass to my level and also some more "home" type textures, like desks, wallpaper etc and I cant find any textures like this in the built in ones, not even a bit of grass! (I used to use DMM2 for Q2 a lot and I am sure you could search the textures using keywords)

Is there a texture pack which I can just include (I'm guessing a pk4, but have not got one of those to work yet :dork: ) that anyone can recommend?

Also to create a tree / bushes / undergrowth is there a basic example map somewhere which I can use to give me a head start.. I am not really after somthing which looks wonderfully lifelike, but I had this idea that tree houses and jump points would be fun in a level :>

Non-standard textures for Q4 are few and far between. Mostly it seems you are going to have to make your own. Kat has a nice tutorial on how to create a mask layer to cut out trees/bushes neatly. Pay a visit to http://www.katsbits.com and have a look about.
There is quite a bit of fairly advanced info at doom3world regarding floral textures and models.
The best advice is to get going with the digital camera and photoshop (or gimp), or google images to use as texture bases.
Trees and more solid types of plant life would look better as models than 2d textures, so for large objects it would be more a case of textures for the objects elements, eg the bark or leaves, rather than a complete image. Again visit Katsbits.com for just about the best d3/q4 model creation resource on the net.

Thanks for the information on the Kat site.

It looks like I got my work cut out for me, it's nowhere near as simple as the old days of getting a bitmap in wally then sizing and rotating on the object :icon23:

Though I guess the results are so much better :)

So to create a tree for example I can assign textures I make (leaves, bark) as parts of the tree to a complex structure I created in the radiant?

You could make simple shapes in radiant yes.
