Because it's not. A lot of people pretend to like it because they wish they were pretentious.R00k wrote:i saw this movie and i just don't understand why people thought it was so fantastic.

Okay the film ties together fine at the end but watching an entire film that's as discordant as this only to find that it was all a stitch up all along results in a movie that was unenjoyable with a final 5/10 mins of 'victory' at the end.Foo wrote:Oceans 12 - Seems like complete shit thus far. Missing everything the original had going for it, but mostly missing the slick conversations but its messy in pretty much every other aspect too.
In the first one you thought they were succeeding for most of it and only had a brief period of uncertainty where things went tits up.. and the payoff for that was their success at the end.
Also the first one had that shit at the end where they all get together at the fountain. It was painfully cheesy and crossed the line that the film had for the most part expertly walked for the entire film. In the second one that section was longer and even more cheesy... and without all the same classiness for the rest of the film it sucked even harder.
^^ lol upset
Best part of the entire film, plus best music: http://youtube.com/watch?v=w9RpLhlFSGU
Hmm. I wasn't really impressed with the atmosphere at all. Not only did it seem a little amateurish to me, but there were a lot of points in the movie where it felt like the screen just pushed me back out and made me think "What am I waiting for here? Is a revelation going to occur, or is this what everyone's been raving about?"Dr_Watson wrote:more to do with the production quality and the intensity from start to finish.
reasons i liked it:
* the future created on film is just so creepy
* the acting is all very well done (i even liked julianne moore and generally speaking i fucking cant stand that cunt)
* the movie has very real concequence, and motivation for the main character. something missing in alot of "apocalyptic" films.
* the references to real-world facisim and genocidal atrocities is very well done without being preachey
* the cinematography is brilliant, with some extremely ambitious shots.
* you have to take in the whole scene, not just the people talking. nothing is truely "background"
TBH, when I finally saw the ending of the movie, I was torn between relief that it was over, and contempt for the fact that they'd led me on such a meandering, yet intently purposeful chase without even offering any real closure to the biggest issue in the film.
The Queen 8/10
I was pretty impressed..it was a good movie. They made T. Blair seem like a pretty cool guy. It was pretty funny to see how the Royals live in such a vacume....Prince Philip is such a fucking Jackass.

you seem to be give 10/10 for every fucking movie you watch. what kind of faggot drama student are you? gimp, easily impressed.Captain Mazda wrote:V For Vendetta - 10/10
Completely blew me away. What a brilliant movie. Nice similarities with the current US as well. Only Hugo Weaving could've pulled off such an articulate character.

its a funny movie that way... either people love it or hate it.R00k wrote: Hmm. I wasn't really impressed with the atmosphere at all. not much middle ground.
it sounds to me like you simply got owned by expectations.
though... i'm not sure where you got the idea that there is supposed to be some sort of huge social comentary message burried in there somewhere.... its a near-future thriller.
did the other people you've been hearing rave about it give you that impression (since i don't think i planted any misconceptions)?
i'm also not sure what you found amatureish or confusing about the ending.

In relation to Oceans 12, yeah, it was a total bag of bollocks. Utter shite. Oceans 11 was much better, quite enjoyed it.
I'm going to see Oceans 13 tonight. So hopefully I wont be confused when George Clooney randomly starts pretending to be George Clooney only to meet his friend Bruce Willis who cant tell the difference between George Clooney and George Clooney.
Yeah, that post made about as much sense as Oceans 12.

just got home from a double feature:
Shooter - 6/10
Conventional and predictable in every way, but for some reason it's almost (but not quite) worthwhile as a lowest common denominator action movie despite not being at all self-aware, this in turn despite the fact that it unfolds like a laundry list of every action movie cliché. Mostly I think the fact that action scenes are getting more and more realistic (in visual terms i.e. the realism of headshots on the screen, not the logistics of one guy taking out an army) made it watchable. It pretty much gets worse and worse as it goes along.
The Lookout - 9/10
Fuckin unbelievable movie. The best acting I've seen in ages, a plot derivative of a number of things but unpredictable and engrossing nonetheless, and really what's actually original any more? Great direction, great soundtrack (I was surprised to see James Newton Howard did the scoring because it's mostly quiet guitar music -- doesn't sound like a classical movie score at all), just great everything. I heartily recommend this film. Joseph Gordon Levitt is one of my favourite actors and he sure knows how to pick em!!
