I've seen DooM³ for $30 at EBgaymes, I might buy it when I'll have a computer that will run it as well as my computer runs Quake3.

I'm talking about the expansion here...remember?
Yea well, so that number is gonna jump to 155 then?
time will tell...I'm not saying it's gonna surpass half-life, I'm just saying it looks promising.

Well to be fair maybe people are scared not to have 125fps anymore... my PC ain't all that but the top ones do reach 100+ right? How do the custom 16 player servers run? (I've seen one or two)

Damn... been some time since I last pinged the list... half the servers are 999, retrofrag.com looks like the only reliable one left for 12 players, there's a 16 player one up but it's in saudi arabia rofl...

id's biggest mistake was not future proofing the game... yea everyones pc's would take a shit if they released 20 man deathmatch outta the box... but 2 years from now when people get boxes that could run that, the game would explode. Hell, that situation ain't a whole lot different than how Quake 3 launched in 99... ok a mod can fix that by then but it won't be enough, mods don't normally draw the crowds in the support should of been right out of the box.

EDIT: Damnit, I'm taking about Doom 3 of course. :icon31:

I would give the game a second look if they fixed all the problems like demo support... it's always fun watching the pros destroy the competition. Having more tourneys would help too. QCon had better bring new faces to the table I don't wanna see fagtal1ty take it all again... would be nice if crazyman got into it. :clownboat:

d3mp seems boring to me. i miss the bouncy feeling q3 had. might just be the maps though.

but ctf will rock. so will the expansion sp.
let's hope they get some decent levels done and some playable servers up...

nobody plays d3mp because of net lag, pc lag, and other bugs that id ignored to work on the xpack. thats why i dont play at least.

Wasn't demo support confirmed to be fixed in the xpack?

can't be arsed to reinstall it, unless there's some sort of monster-closetless innovation in the expansion sp.

not worth it for mp - felt guilty going to bed after playing d3mp at the peak of its success, y'know, leaving the other 3 uk players with no-one to shoot at.

Dont know why but i could never play doom3 for more than 20mins at a time, just seem so repetitive. Even though that first screenie does look good I think im going to pass. I akways had more fun playing HL2 :paranoid:

Whilst the infamous monster closet was abused a little too much in Doom 3, it didn't really detract from the core gameplay, which was as solid as a rock (apart from a few too many imps instead of other monsters maybe).

But they did get the scare tactics right at the start of Delta Labs I thought; an area where you don't meet any enemies for a protracted period, you just catch fleeting glimpses.
Unfortunately, they kind of blew the crescendo, by just assaulting you with more standard enemies at the end of this sequence, when it COULD have been used as a brilliant opportunity to introduce a new enemy...

Anyway, MP is neither here nor there for me.
I'll try it, but the only things I really play online these days are original Quake, RtCW/ET & Guild Wars, so the slow pace of D3 never really appealed.

Too small a development team, working on too advanced an engine, producing too little content, with too many things left incomplete or unsatisfying.

Epic have got it right. Large team churning out quality content.

I'm hoping id will change to reflect modern game creation some time soon.

Epic's last product was UT2004. Get it right.

Though for arguments sake, Unreal 2 was a dissapointment, yeah.

I guess there's another counter example too.. wasn't Crytek quite a small team?

Epic may be technically competent, and there's nothing wrong with their technical artistery, but they lack all traces of creativety and creative vision. UT2004 reeks of pubescent generic sci-fi mediocrity. It's technically impeccable, but lacks any kind of soul.
