"Fit" broken in GTKRadiant 1.3, 1.4, and 1.5...wtf

Post by pjw »

Okay, I don't get this at all. Granted, it's been a while since I did any Q3 mapping, having moved on to Quake 4, but I can't believe something this basic is broken, and everyone hasn't been bitching loudly about it.

In any of the above three editors, make a brush, apply a texture (say common, caulk) to a face, and hit "fit" (1 x 1). It works, right?

Now rotate that texture 90 degrees (select the face, click rotate twice when set at 45) and hit fit again. In 1.3 and 1.4 it's just all screwed up and not fit properly at all. In 1.5 it looks like it's actually being projected on the wrong axis and is stretched all to infinity.

Yayyy! Image

And yeah, I know I can work around it, but...damn...I shouldn't have to do that.

I don't *think* I've gone all retarded and just forgotten something basic about GTKRadiant or settings for same...can I get a sanity check and make sure that other people are seeing the same thing and that my rig isn't possessed or something?

I seem to recall the same issue with 1.4 that you're talking about. Been a few months since I've opened the program though.

I loathe 1.5. Haven't touched it in over a year (or whenever the first beta release of 1.5 was released. My grasp of time is a little shaky)

I'm too new to the mapping world to have touched 1.3. I started with 1.4 and stuck with 1.4.

LOL, I can't seem to even select a face in GTKRadiant any more... (should be CTRL + SHIFT + LMB but it selects the entire brush).

Seems to work fine for me... but then again I use 1.3
didn't realize there was a 1.4/1.5 lol.

Works all fine for me. I can select, rotate a face and "fit" a texture on it without any problems. Using the latest nightly build dated 7th January 2007.
Btw. this build is just awesome. Hated the 1.5 for a long time (due to those nasty bugs like the not working patch capping and removed or changed features like the z-axis window and the new way of selecting func_groups). But this release finally made my day. Don't want to miss the new features like texture tagging or multi selecting with shift-LMB any more [/advertise] :D

IIRC, there is a keyboard shortcut for fitting a texture.
