weren't there alternative drivers or something for creative cards? bought an audigy 2 a while back because i was in a hurry and regretted it quickly - lots of games have popping and crackling on the sound.

alternatively, can anyone recommend a sound card that isn't shit?

I have an M-Audio Revolution 7.1 Sound Card. Been happy with it so far.

I knew buying that audigy ZS, only to toss it in my dead parts pile because it crackled would someday get me something.

Well everything I have read says that for gaming the M-Audio Revolution sucks as the Audigy 2 ZS kicks ass. As for music and movies the M-Audio does better.

the only thing soundcrapper beats M-Audio on is CPU cycles.
M-Audio cards use more processor cycles (thus robbing about 1-2 fps) because they are producing better sound.

M-Audio are fucking excellent, their Revolution 7.1 card feature-wise rivals the Audigy Series, I've never been hugely impressed with Creative...

I, myself have a M-Audio Delta 1010LT card, and it's excellent, both for gaming and recording, haven't had a hitch with it yet.
Also their studio monitors are great too, I have a pair of BX-8s, and they're excellent, crisp clear, but the bass response isn't that great.

Well since my speakers just died on the computer with crappy onboard audio, meaning not my ABit AN7, I am looking for a good sound card that doesn't cost a helluva lot, now is the M-Audio Revolution 5.1 a good buy?

very nice. but to be honest, monitors are not meant to impress in bass just a clean, flat response. but you already knew that. how would you compare that pair say to something from Fostex or Alesis?

yes. it's a very good buy. i installed one in a friend's pc about 6 months ago (had a SB Live! 5.1 that took a dump) and he's been very pleased with it.

I've got one of the original Audigy Gamer cards. It was bought in the US (I may still have the original receipt even) so I was hoping I could get the discount. Unfortunately, the Claim Form can only be filled out if you're a US resident. Cunts.
