Phantasy Star III was my Final Fantasy II, to be honest, I played it first - and it was fucking mind-blowing. It's a multi-generational game that just goes on for fucking ever, and it's a real blast. Part of it is having it trade on my childhood memories, but with four planets and three generations it's the most expansive RPG of the 16 bit era.
