Snowboarding
Snowboarding
I got to go snowboarding for the first time yesterday (saturday) at Snow World in the netherlands. It was a real fun time.
I didn't think it would be as hard as it was, but after a few runs I could go all the way down in a general straight line and then just fall to stop. That was on the 200m slope.
Eventually I went down the whole thing and would have to fall about 5 times to slow down, until I figured out how to turn the right way. Then I'd just slalom down the hill.
Didn't get injured as bad as I thought I would be, but I definitly fucked up my left shoulder real bad. Right when I was getting off the lift, there is a 3 foot fast slope just to get people away from the lift. Well my board clipped someone elses and flipped me into a MIDAIR cartwheel and ended up dropping about 6 feet in the air and all the wieght landed on my left shoulder. I heard something pops, and it hurts like hell, but it cold have been worse...since my left foot was completely backwards too. Props to the extreme ankle protection of the boots. Almost broke all 4 fingers in my left hand in a fall, but was able to moce them in time.
Anyways, respect to anyone who can snowboard real good, because it definitly takes some skill and such.

nah... right before we left i'd go down the hill and crash only one or twice.saturn wrote:lol, take some decent lessons first before you go crashing yourself. Next time you're on a steep slope or icy glacier and you'll break your neck.
Can't wait to do it again

nice pictures saturn...how long did it take to go down the hill?
Depends.....the first photo was on a glacier and I had to slide down carefully to get on an off-piste track of 10 kilometers. That took about 20 minutes to board.
Normally I'm within minutes down the slope, but mostly I have to wait for the others. It's wise to go at least with 2 people so you can take care of eachother in case of an accident.

I'm originally from Colorado, and my family has a condo in Vail (Lionshead to be exact) so I was boarding and skiing all break. I've been skiing for 16 years and riding for 4.... I'm of the opinion that they have their strengths, namely: skiing for bumps and the park except the pipe, and riding for powder and the pipe (which i blow at).
One thing about snowboarding is that after riding powder for the first time last year, I refuse to ski on powder. Ever. The difference is night and day.
The glacier pics are great... is that the one in Canada? Forget the name.
edit: nice racoon tan!!! i get so much shit for having a racoon tan when i come back to school from winter break, but i wear it as a badge of honor!

There are no snow domes in North America, but at least one is being planned, amid legal battles over land development. According to Elizabeth Parlett, spokeswoman for the Mills Corporation, construction on Xanadu in New Jersey should begin by the end of March with a projected opening date of Spring 2007.
I was in VT for most of last thursday.. It took so long to board there from Meribel. I think over an hour if you include lift rides. I prefered it to meribelsaturn wrote:riding fresh powder is the best thing after sex
the glacier pics are taken in Val Thorens, France.
Many people here in the hospital have racoon tans, it isn't really special anymore heh

That don't stop meUnderpants? wrote:looks pretty crusty but still virgin freshies is virgin freshies. mad respeck, sat. they tell me that I'm spoiled with the copper mountain (co.) champaign powder, but I don't know anything else... going again on weds, maybe I'll snap off a couple from the ridge of union bowl.

Quite heavy though
That glacier is actually in Orelle, the mountain ridge you see there is from Valtho, but it's all part of the enormous 3 Vallees area (which Meribel is part off I think). One hour isn't that long sysop, once it took me 7 hours to get to a far away mountain/glacier and back. During that time I got to a 5 peaks and 5 villages just reach that amazing point. Of course I had a good long French lunch with steak and red wine haha.sys0p wrote:I was in VT for most of last thursday.. It took so long to board there from Meribel.
