I'm looking for a widescreen CRT monitor

I'm looking for a widescreen CRT monitor. I like the look of the Sony FW900 but the manufacture of that has been discontinued and I don't really want a second hand one. Is there a Sony monitor that's replaced that one? There isn't one on their site.

I want to be able to connect a PS3 to it. It has to be able to do 1080 verticle resolution.
The FW900 has only a VGA input, are there adaptors I could use to convert HDMI to VGA? Cause the PS3 only outputs the HD resolution as HDMI as far as I know.

HDMI

DVI
HDMI is Digital only, wile DVI is both digital and Analog.

So that is why you can convert DVA to VGA..

how much are you looking to spend?

So you can't convert HDMI to VGA?

I'd just like to see what the prices are at the moment. Last I found out, a Sony widescreen CRT monitor was about £1000.

No, you cant.

you would need a converter...

you COULD however hook up the Component outs of the PS2 to the VGA connection of the Monitor.

But might i ask why you are leaning towards a CRT?

The converter would create some delay, right?

It's PS3, and would the component out output the higher resolution? If so, why do they have a HDMI socket and cables if you can just use component outputs?

I'm leaning towards a CRT cause they have better picture quality with the colours, brightness, and not much ghosting to speak of.

Plus I haven't seen an HDTV with a verticle resolution of 1080 for less than £1000.

Edit: And as I was saying in the "Sony Promises Third PlayStation 3 Version" thread (page 2); maybe the LCD monitors I found can do 1080 but their native resolution is different so the picture quality wouldn't be so good when doing that resolution.

Edit2: I have thought of getting a rear projection 1080 HDTV but they are over £1000 I think.

It's hard to find one that has a verticle resolution of 1080. Some do, the ones I found were over £1000.

Edit3: I've been assuming that rear projection is better than LCD or plasma, I better ask in the TV thread.

Not really true. You can only convert DVI to VGA with an (simple) adapter if it is DVI-I. My guess is you can only create DVI-D from a HDMI source. So the above will not work with the simple converters you find with most graphicscards.

Anyway, Component at any resolution is analog, wile HDMI is Digitial Through and through ( and it includes uncompressed Audio aswell )

TBH ghosting is an issue for Quake 3 players because of just how fine we cropped the performance down to.

For CoH on PS3, or Halo, or other similar titles? Take the penalty in terms of response time and go with the high-def LCDs. Everyone else around you will be doing the same, and the benefit from better response time really isnt so significant on console games, because the delay is not emphasised so much when your fellow competitors aren't trying to outdo you with a technological arms race.
