PHOTOS PLEASE
I'm going to try that 'take a pic of yourself every day in the same spot' for awhile to see if it motivates me to stick to my new workout. I'm curious to see what the changes will look like after a couple months of diet and exercise and i think having a day by day shot would be an interesting way to quantify the changes in my physique on a week by week or even day by day basis.
the key will be to stick to it during the holiday break.

What kind of machine are you going to open it with? I opened a 450 MB jp2 file from NASA the other day and it took up 1.8 GB of my system RAM and then started in on the page fileDoombrain wrote:not sure yet. all the details are in a letter sent with it. it's a shot of the mailbox. in fact, it's the worlds highest res file.
hmm well i usualy just play around with candles and ordinary lamps, but sometimes when i take portrait pictures i would like to have a decent light setup.. or alot faster lenses..Dave wrote:nice color and light. i'm hoping to get some studio lights before i graduate so i can get a student discount so i can do some interesting things with light
i'm still undecided on my next lens purchase.. either the ef-s 18-55 2.8 or the ef 50mm 1.2 , the 18-55 would exchange my 17-85 is..
i would also love to try out the MP-E 65mm but that one seems like a rare item and isnt in stock off any photo stores i know
Just look to see where you use your lens most often and at which focal lengths. If you use what you have wide open at or around 50mm, get the 1.2, 1.4 or 1.8. You'll find a wide range of prices in there of course.. 1600, 350 and 100. If I were going to take portraits, though, I'd get the lights over the faster lens.mac wrote:hmm well i usualy just play around with candles and ordinary lamps, but sometimes when i take portrait pictures i would like to have a decent light setup.. or alot faster lenses..Dave wrote:nice color and light. i'm hoping to get some studio lights before i graduate so i can get a student discount so i can do some interesting things with light

As far as that macro lens goes, most people recommend not getting that if you've never really done much 1x macro. You'd also have to get a macro ring light because you can't see what you're doing when it's zoomed into 5x and there isn't much light available. If I were going to get a macro, I'd probably get the 180. The EF-S 60mm is pretty good too, I hear, but I can't use that one since I don't have an EF-S camera. I'm sure you can find the MP-E online somewhere. Try looking on ebay or keh.com.
my current lenses i own are just the efs17-85 and the efs 60macro,Dave wrote: Just look to see where you use your lens most often and at which focal lengths. when comparing the 17-85@60 with 5.6 and the macro@2.8 there is a difference to me like day and night, especially at night

hence the urge for faster lenses. the 17-85 is a nice lens during daylight even with the stronger barrel disortions on the wide end
but then when sun goes down and light get rare even the IS is not helping that much.
as for the prime i know the price range is pretty wide, but i've seen the 1.8 earlier when i purchased my camera and didn't like the hole feeling of it, especialy the tiny focus ring in front. i know its a bargain but i rather spend some money into build quality.
i havent owned and L lens yet so i don't know how the build quality will be noticeable on a day by day use. i'm quite carefull with my equipement since this is just a hobby i don't get into rougher situations. as for the pretty steep price difference between the 1.4 and 1.2 ... i see the purchase of expensive lenses not at critical as other tehnical equipement cause so faar i've seen the prices for thoose lenses are pretty stable and therefore second hand prices are too if there would be the necessity to get rid of some of them.
i fear the difference of the apterture between the 50mm can be the tiny bit that differs from being able take "this" picture in low light and get some usable results or to get some shaky ones
as for protrait makes prolly no difference hece the stativ but i also do alot of photos in hand.. not sure.. hmm prolly i should purchase both 50mm lenses (1.2 and 1.4) and keep the one i like and return the other (which is possible here i n germany for 2 weeks)
.... as for the macro.. well i would like to try it out.. i do macros not all of the 1:1 the last one from the orange up there where, but i find it somehow fascinating how youre daily enviroment looks so different apmplified.. it opens a new sometimes bizzare world which i find interesting..
not sure if i would use the MP-E alot ,but would like to try it out

as for studio lights... i don't have a spare room where i could set up such lights and keep them there, i also dislike to drag tons of equipement around with me. i also do most portrait shoots not at home than rather on the place of the "target" which left me with little choice about the avaiable light in their locations..
anyway thnx for the input
