So memory latency is actually higher with the new chipset? Why would they let it out the door that way?

well they had a good run competing with the mighty intel giving more bang for the buck but now it appears its over

Intel as a monopoly isn't a good thing for consumers. Same thing with nVidia.

As long as these companies are equally competitive, they will continue to drive prices down and increase performance.

So I hope AMD/ATI can pull through with something equally competitive.

I'm still running an AMD T-Bird 1Ghz... I need to upgrade. Surprisingly, though, my system still runs faster in some areas than a lot of my buddies who have upteen million mhz of power. That's probably because I know how to optimize my machine and turn off all the bullshit that windows deems necessary.

I agree with obsidian, but I am somewhat happy to see Intel be so good at gaming. I'm sure it will be a pendulum that will swing in AMDs favor eventually.
