https://sourceforge.net/projects/bochs
Bochs is a portable x86 PC emulation software package that emulates
enough of the x86 CPU, related AT hardware, and BIOS to run Windows,
Linux, *BSD, Minix, and other OS's, all on your workstation.
Emulating architectures is very slow at the moment, it is extremelly unpractical for casual use.
Mac OSX was built on top of FreeBSD, NOT the unix core. It was built around the FreeBSD KERNEL which IS NOT in the heart of the GUN/linux kernel.
Finally, yes the x86 architecture is one of the weakest ones out there. RISC machines will always outperform them. However, most people (inclusive of this thread) have no fucking clue about what they are and why this is so.

Glad to hear you have everything running. I only have 1 of my personal computers running windows at the moment. Only reason for that is games.inphlict wrote:I would probally get a mac if I had the money.
I've fixed all the problems I've had, everything is running solid. I just need to customize everything.
Ubuntu owns.

mac OSX based on FreeBSD:
Pertaining to wether FreeBSD is UNIX or not depends on how you look at it. As per legal claims, it is considered UNIX simply because FreeBSD stemmed from BSD UNIX.
However, the UNIX kernel, FreeBSD kernel, and Linux kernel are all different and maintained by different people. Therefore, they are not the same.
It is common practice however, to group them all together as *nix.

Panther integrates features from state-of-the-art FreeBSD 5 into Darwin — the Open Source, UNIX-based foundation of Mac OS X — to provide enhanced performance, compatibility and usability.

Nice point. Although Apple says it is BSD and UNIX (I just breezed over it.) meaning...what?
The Darwin BSD level will run on Intel, which is what MacOS X sits on. Darwin builds exist that run X Windows, though I can't say I ever tried it. Drivers are probably an issue.Kills On Site wrote:but will OSX run on x86 architeture? I do not believe so, so what good will your post do him?Arkleseizure wrote:Mac OS X. I'd still go for a Linux on an Intel system myself unless you're making an online server, of course.
I have Mandrake installed here on my Dull as it lives with XP on the same disk.
