Only a fag would turn it off after 15 minutes, any normal hetero would last longer just due to the babes.

Casino Royale: 7/10

I agree with a lot of what Foo said but I don't agree with his conclusions. I like the fact that there were no Earth shattering laser beams or robot dogs with rocket packs.
However the product placement was fucking pissing me off. For some reason I want to go out and but a Vaio now.
Also, Bond driving a Ford? WTFever.
The next thing that really pissed me off was the pacing of the movie. It started up and slowed down way too much only to come to a very blah conclusion.
Also, the informant guy that was doing commentary for the Texas Hold'Em game was pissing me off. I understand that it was in there so that people who don't know how to play would know what was going on but it seemed a little heavy handed.
Also, this movie completely FUCKED the Bond timeline. This movie features a Bond who just attained 00 status yet it was set in the present day. They even tied Le Chifre to 911. Where does that leave the other Bond movies now?

Dear god.

I can't believe the timeline argument. That's like saying Batman Begins is rubbish because it's set in present day.

Huh?

I mentioned the timeline because if they're talking about 911 then the movie clearly takes place in the present day. Now factor in the other 19 movies (especially the Pierce Brosnan movies) which make no mention of 911 (understandably since it hadn't happened yet) and everything just gets completely fuxored.

But it's a James Bond reborn/retelling. It was to reboot the entire franchise.

Don't think of it as one long story. Wouldn't that make James Bond about 75?

There's a subtlety in the bond 'timeline' in that while we consider each bond somewhat of a seperate entity by the actor that plays the character, it's never ever explicitly defined in the films themselves. That is to say, while it's a different actor we're to assume James Bond is a single being throughout. This never being explained is one of the legacies of the bond series that got carried from movie to movie as a tongue-in-cheek thing.

Except this one screwed it up, as mentioned. The character's called james bond, and it's defined as being current events, yet he has a kill count of 0.

It doesn't add anything to the film to do that, but it does shit over a small but deliberate element of the bond movie series.

A history of violence is a bit like Lost. I builds up huge suspense as to what's really going on, only to disappoint you with a generic action plot.

But the B.I.G news is:

There'll be a director's cut for "Payback". Apparantly without Kris Kristofferson, without the kidnapping of the son, but with a whole lot more of MEL GIBSON BEATING THE CRAP OUT OF PEOPLE.

I believe it will be incredibly awesome and I can't wait to see it.

Casino Royale 6.5/10

I tend to use the whole scale so average movie being 5, this was above average, but not great. It was OK. I'm glad I saw it as it definitely had some good moments, but overall, yeah, didn't really do much for me. I dont mind that they tried to make this Bond movie a bit different. We have 20 other Bond movies we can watch if we want the same ol' same ol'. And besides, its interesting to see a bit of the other side of the character. So that part was good. Anyway...

****SPOILERS****

Some points:

+ The acting was good. Its a bit different than the usual bond but the actors did a fine job doing what they were told. We haven't seen all around decent acting like that since Tomorrow Never Dies.

+ Since this is fresh-start-ish, I like how they explain a few things that come in other bond movies e.g. martini, bond not falling for moneypenny, bits and pieces of his style (why he gets a fancy car, tux).

+ Card playing. For some reason I always liked this aspect of some Bond movies.

+ Great delivery of the "witty" lines. It didn't sound too corny or cheesy. Nice.

- Intro song sucked. I like the other ones that have been done...the more mellow slightly dark toned stuff. I didnt like the crappy rock song.

- Card playing. I felt like I was watching Texas Hold 'Em on ESPN. The timing was horrible. A couple of things: this whole section isn't interesting enough to be one of the main parts of the movie. It could have been an important plot device (the game in general), but it just dragged on way too long.

Another thing--its MONOPOLY money. It only holds so much shock value. This is fake movie money. Yeah you might be "impressed" with a 5 million dollar bet in a movie game of poker. But do it ten times and that money "damn....thats a lot" feeling devalues really, really quickly...

- The whole romantic part of the movie. It wasn't very believable or interesting. I (as I thought everyone did, but apparently not) got the idea that the girl is money penny, or the films version of money penny. I know how the Bond - Moneypenny scheme works. They constantly jock each other with words and MP wants Bond badly, but he doesn't really care for her much. So the whole time from when I gather she's MP, I think to myself: "ok, they're going to constantly throw words at each other, she's going to want him and he's going to tease her and then blow her off". I'm watching the whole romantic build up and I wonder when he's going to blow her off. So it becomes even less believable when I had this attitude. Then I realize that nope, he actually really likes her and by then its near the end of the film anyway, so I never got into the whole romantic thing the movie tries to pull off. I'm not sure if anyone else felt this way.

- Long action sequences. The movie is suppose to be more realistic, but the movie near the beginning has a retardedly long foot chase scene. Yeah I'm sure he's doing all that crazy shit and not getting tired. For some reason long action sequences don't do it for me. Keep it simple and keep it fucking cool and I'm happy. The last long action sequence I liked was in Terminator 3--the car/truck chase scene. Anyway, this point is really subjective. I just dont like implausible long action sequences.

- The building crashing down at the end. By this time the movie went on too long and I had already slowed down by the whole romantic thing. I wasn't expecting another action sequence and by that point I didn't really care. The pacing in this movie was just weird.

- I didn't like the ending. The real guy behind everything didn't have a big enough role throughout the movie I thought. I did like the "Bond, James Bond" line though.

- Plot. Banking doesn't bother me. I don't want anything too crazy. The plot in the last movie was a bit too crazy, but if you want to do banking, make it extremely interesting.

I could write more, but this is getting long as is.

Even with your explanation I don't understand why the hell you thought Vesper was Moneypenny. You do realise that there are already 2 Casino Royale movies right?

fantastic four

3/10 raising it from 2 because the dialog was relatively funny.

always thought the comics were shite tbh, but we were babysitting my mates kid and i thought he might like it. he didn't, he tortured the cat instead - there was nothing in the film for a kid outside of the action scenes, and there weren't enough of those.

Casino Bondal.

Great flick, really enjoyed it. Probably the best Bond yet with, dare I say it, the best actor playing Bond yet.

Doesn't get a 10 tho, I think the plot was a little wibbly wobbly in places, and I still dont know who that guy with the glasses at the end was...?
