I've already addressed why *I* think Richards may have made the comment, and in that respect I don't think he was inherently supporting the idea. It was inappropriate in every way, but I don't think him saying it means he's supporting lynching.

That being the case, I'd have to look at the situation that led to the incident.

But a short answer - no, I don't think it makes the news in as big a fashion as this does.
