Alarm Clock

My alarm clock, which makes the most annoying sound in the entire world (that is good cause it wakes me up) is failing me. Two night, however not in a row, it has failed to go off. I don't mean failed to wake me up, I mean it didn't go off, nobody heard it. I am looking for an alarm clock now, I would like something nice, good battery backup (not something that throws the time off by a few minutes every power outage). The problem I have had with my alarm clock for a long time is that it had bright red LCDs, and I like to sleep in total darkness, so something not so glaring would be nice. Any suggestions?
