Call Of Duty questions cleared up...

Post by o'dium »

- Call of Duty 2 uses a new proprietary graphics engine featuring normal-mapping, specular-mapping, bump-spec, real-time lighting and shadows
- Is less scripted and linear than the original letting players jump from any of the campaigns (American, English, Russian) in whatever order they want. Not to the point of being Grand Theft Auto: WW2, but the gameplay is a lot more open ended.
- Hints at a possible playable German campaign.
- Missions set in Normandy, Stalingrad and North Africa.
- Huge maps on "a scale of miles".
- Better story telling, more emotional than the original.
- D-Day landing mission is supposed to be pretty good.
- Improved squad based companions.

So its not Doom 3, and its not Quake 3... Hmmm...

Devs need ot be carefull with their own engine. 9 times out of 10, they suck really, really bad... Mouse input wise anyways...

I think Riddick was one of the best ones not done by id TBH...

they need to focus more on the Eastern Front and should include early war battles like Poland, France etc.

by the way I thought it takes years to create your own game engine? How did they do it so fast?

No one said it's their own engine. It says it's a proprietary engine, which could be any commercial engine ever made.

UE3 looks good, although they cant seem to shake that huge layer of Unreal (model and architecture wise).
lets see what other devs will cook up

The problem with Epic is that they can't loose that unreal edge they have on the world, but the ykeep making games that are NOT unreal.

Just do Unreal 3, LIKE THE FIRST, and get it over with. Best Game ever DONE.
