A phone soliciter hung up on me :(
First time ever I've had a phone soliciter hang up on me. Usually I can't get them off the phone.
Unfortunately I didn't get the name of the organization first but this was the spel:
"Hello, I'm Cindy Dove, that's D-O-V-E, and this call is not to ask for money and will only take 90 seconds.
We believe that Hollywood is making movies that are bad for children. The movies are getting more and more edgier while the rating system is getting more and more lax. These movies are inappropriate and we believe we can help. Parents are having a difficult time finding suitable entertainment and are having to moniter their children's entertainment. This is a problem, don't you agree?"
I said: "No."
Her: "Excuse me?"
Me: "No, it's not a problem. Parents should have to moniter what their children view, not moniter Hollywood."
Her: "Well, Hollywood is not making family viewing material and we believe we can change that. Don't you agree?"
Me: "No. I don't agree. If parents don't want their children to go to movies they find unacceptable, than don't give them the money. Movies are almost $10 a pop now. Where are these kids getting the money? Someone must be giving it to them.
Hollywood is out to make a profit. If a type of movie isn't making money, Hollywood will stop making it. The consumer is driving the product and I don't believe some group should appoint themselves as monitors....
Cindy Dove - "Excuse me....excuse me, I..."
...also, there's the Discovery channel, the history channel, the Family channel, Lifetime and for fun, the Disney channel. I love Disney. It's fun for kids and familys...
Cindy Dove - "This call was about young families. Thank you for your time" click.
Hello? Hello? Oh no you didn't. You didn't just hang up on me. Did she just hang up on me?!1@ Come back here you dirty censorship whore and take the verbal ass-whipping you and your commie-pinko organization deserve!!!!
I win.

lol, fair play to ya
I'm almost never bothered by any of those awful people. But when it happens and i have time i like to entertain myself by stretching out the conversation as long as possible - by agreeing with all their arguments but not wanting their product / service due to completely bullshit reasons i make up on the fly.
This is Tricky Business, sometimes they poke through my facade.
But usually they try and try and try and then they get frustrated and thank me for my time ever so politely.
Another fun tactic is asking a question of your own for each one of their questions. :icon14:

Those callers don't bother me, the only thing that can get me slightly vexed is one of those morons who thinks everyone has some kind of moral obligation to listen patiently to the guy who's cold calling me or stopping me in the street, usually on the grounds that 'it's just his job'
WRONG
"sorry not interested, goodbye".

To be honest, I don't give a shit about the phone soliciter. She actually said more...I can't remember the entire conversation verbatim. What bothered me was the message.
She would say something reasonable like "families are good, don't you agree?"; "we should support family entertainment, don't you agree?"; and eventually end up at the point "we're an organization that wants to dictate which movies get made and what everyone across the country gets to see, that's a good thing, don't you agree?" Now give us your money.
She had a white bread, all american, I'm-the-most-reasonable-nicest-woman-in-the-world voice. At first, when I didn't agree, she would repeat it in an even sweeter tone. She would have been perfect for the Mickey Mouse Club.
By the time she hung up, her tone wasn't nearly as pleasant.
She's getting agreement and money from stupid people that believe they are "helping famlies" when really it's to fund an organization that wants to stop freedom of expression.

I've openly challenged religious people who come to me while I'm sitting in the park. They always walk up and say,"Can I talk to you about God?"
I say "sure" but they never expect to actually have a serious, rational discussion...so after about 5 rapid fire questions from me (which they never have an answer for) they usually just politely excuse themselves and leave me alone.
I'm not rude about it...but if you want to talk to me about God you better be ready to talk about all aspects of God...not just how wonderful He is.
