Analyzers

Post by corpse »

Do you guys know of any good programs that will analyze computers for errors?

I have a friend who has an analyzer that plugs into a pci slot but he says it is hard to understand so Im wondering if there is a good program that you can run off of a disk or something.

To be a liitle more clear. I want a program that will check everything. Will check for program errors and also for hardware issues.

You're not going to find an all-in-one application that actually works. You're going to have to go with separate apps like Memtest, a drive diagnostic, and a registry cleaner. Troubleshooting applications requires a bit more work on your part and some time with the Event Viewer and system logs.

Well I know about event viewer, but where are the system logs kept?

I had heard that it is best to let Windows mange the registry. I didn't think the registry cleaners were reliable.

System logs are kept in quite a few places throughout the OS. As for reg cleaners you're right it generally is best to let Windows manage it but there are times when you want to run checks. Basically, you need to study (eg. a ton of reading) and build experience in using/repairing the OS because you're not going to find software that will do it all for you.
