XP Defrag a load of shit?

Post by Foo »

Defrag is running for the second consecutive time on my C drive right now, yet it's still making improvements to the drive above and beyond what was altered on the first pass.

Why can't it do it on the first pass, or keep running until it's right, without needing to re-run the process?

I've always thought the built-in defraggers are poop. Went the shareware route some time ago. http://www.raxco.com/products/perfectdisk2k/

Though I still think excecutive disk keeper is pretty shitty, bloated pos.

I used oo for a while, until I heard some comments from different net sources that perfectdisk is better. :)

XP's defrag isn't capable of completely defragmenting in one pass (it often takes more than 5). IMO, if this is for one PC then use a product like O&O. Or you could just schedule defrags to run using the stock app via a batch file and then forget it.

[i]I once had a glass of milk.

It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.

I am now sick.

color=#ff0000]I've used Diskeeper and PerfectDisk. I perfer PerfectDisk myself, however I wouldn't say Diskeeper is bad, I did not notice anything that would make me think it was bloated.

read the advanced defragging section in Koroush Ghazi's tweaking companion. There's a good diskeeper tutorial in there.

I keep posting this link, but few seem to take heed.

my system is running like a dream and i haven't even done the defragging part yet.

Yeah julz that is an excellent guide, I've been meaning to buy the hard copy version for some time, but now I'm kinda holding back seeing as vista is around the corner, plus I keep my xp in tip top shape already, but still that is one helluva guide.
