Can't access router.

Post by I cant spell u »

I type in the password and it doesn't seem to work anymore, it's a linksys befsr41v3. I'm not sure how they would've guessed it, I would never think that anyone would try and get it anyways so I made it rather simple, probably my first mistake. Is there a way I can change it without the current password or am I fucked?

Peoples who changed it. I tried the default as well, which should just be admin as the password with the username left blank. I never saw anything that would let me enter a username though. Hard reset?

Reset the Router to factory default by pressing the Reset button for 30 seconds and then releasing it.

Got the above directly from the user manual @ linksys ;)

I hate asking questions with obvious answers but just to be sure, the manual at the site and not the manual that was included? I don't have the manual that came with it btw.

You might want to make sure you know all the info about how
your router is setup before resetting the thing? :p

I always have my info written down in a safe place for emergencies.

I don't think my isp made changes to the router's settings, all they did was just give me the modem and I'd hook up the router.

Well ok then.

So what your saying is that you have a modem from your ISP.

You went and got a router and hooked it up in between your
modem and computer right?

You hooking up the router with network cables and then not having
to configure one thing on the router

Ok then your resetting should be no problem then.
Simply reset the router and then go back in and change the password
to something different from past times.

But I really have to say you must of set something up in the router...?!

Alas.... I may be totally off. :)

Well I'm going to try and make a fool of myself in a few BF2
games for an hour or so. ( taking 20 mins to finally find a server most likely, LoL! )

I'll be checking back when I'm done.

*waves* good luck to you.

The username and password by default are admin.
You have to enter both of them in.

Copied from User Guide:
  • To ensure the Router’s security, you will be asked for your password when you access the Router’s Web-based
Utility. The default password is admin.
  • 10. I forgot my password, or the password prompt always appears when saving settings to the Router.
Reset the Router to factory default by pressing the Reset button for 30 seconds and then releasing it. If you
are still getting prompted for a password when saving settings, then perform the following steps:
    A. Access the Router’s web interface by going to http://192.168.1.1 or the IP address of the Router. Enter
the default password admin, and click the Administration => Management tab.
    B. Enter a different password in the Router Password field, and enter the same password in the second field
    to confirm the password.
    C. Click the Save Settings button.
The one instance you are referring to with both login and password
as admin is the following:

How to Access the Web-based Utility
To access the Web-based Utility of the Router, launch Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, and enter the
Router’s default IP address, 192.168.1.1, in the Address field. Press the Enter key.
A screen will appear asking you for your User name and Password. Enter admin in the User Name and Password
fields. Then click the OK button.

*sigh*

Interesting to say the least.

So at this time.

Have you tried resetting your router yet?

Well I hope it all works out simply enough.

I'm in need of some sleep so I'll see if you post tomorrow after
your reset.
