Cruise control motherfucker. Do you use it?

Post by bitWISE »

Ugh..I'm getting so sick of people who can't maintain their fucking speed on the highway. I prefer to use cruise control because:
-Very long commute
-Keeps me from speeding
-Maintaining one speed helps gas mileage

However, I can't use it 75% of the time because these douche bags who drive in Ohio can't decide what speed they want to drive. I usually reset the speed 3 or 4 times in a row before I finally just yell "fuck" use the pedal. Even still...its fucking annoying to have to gas/break/gas/break/gas when the road is a fucking straight 4 lane highway.

This a pet peeve for you guys too?

Easiest way to keep a certain speed i find is to drop the gear down one, like if it's a 30mph limit drop it down into 2nd gear; revs around 1.8k so it's just about right (for my car at least).

And as your in such a low gear you can pull way when you leave the limit (into 60mph say) nice and quick :D

I use it in my Voyager when I have open freeway space, getting to the point that is at a premium in Portland town.

Most of my driving peeves have been from people not driving fast enough. :icon26:

Well my second gear can do around 75 so that doesn't help ;). But I was actually complaining about the people in front of me who either forget they are driving or slow down to look at something or just can't keep steady pressure on the gas.

None of the cars i've ever driven (about 6 in total) have had cruise control, if i had it i think i'd flaunt it.

Yes, and I hate it. On the freeway is the worst -- you have to move out of the left lane because someone is barreling down on you, and two minutes later you end up passing them because they're moving about 20 mph slower.

I can understand some people don't have cruise control, but at least TRY to maintain a steady speed.
I also hate people who match your speed but tailgate like they want to pass. When you slow down to force them to go by, they just slow down, too. And when you speed up again, they follow. :icon33:

Yeah I used to floor it and go 240kmh an hour and see if they'd follow.

I very rarely use it, since although I take the highway every day to go to school, its only 15km one way. I usually stay in the left lane, doing 120-160, exactly because that people in the middle lane can't maintain their speed and I can't use the cruise.

(@ Kracus)
Yeah, when it gets obvious I just take off, which is great because usually they can't keep up. I figure that they're just hoping that if they stay behind me, they won't get pulled over. I don't even care to go fast enough to get pulled over -- I just hate having to constantly watch where they are, and if I need to speed up to get around other cars, etc...

Also, it makes it obvious that I know what they're doing, so they typically back off or pass after that.

I followed someone like that, doing 170.

I'd use it if my car had it.
Not during the work commute as there's too much traffic (still average about 70 though) and I have to take 4 different freeways so there's constant merging.

However for longer trips (even just 50-75) my leg starts to cramp and I wish so bad I had it. :(

Stupid ergonomics in that damn car. :\

Sometimes I wish I had cruise because all of the heat from the firewall makes my feet toasty.

Either you aren't realising that the floor heater vents are on or there is something seriously wrong with your car.
