[Final] pukka3tourney5 - suboptimal

Post by sumatra »

Finally I got around to finish this one! :)

I guess it would have been a nice geocomp entry, I would have met the restrictions (aside from the time restrictions).
Nevertheless it's finished now.
It's a remix of an existing map. The credits for the basic layout (I have modified it to fit may gameplay imagination) go to sst13.

Original Map (CLAUSTROPHOBIC EDGE)

Here an obligatory screenshot and the Download location.

My Remake (SUBOPTIMAL)

Would like to hear any impressions you got.
Maybe I'm going to start a new project in the future. On the other hand I need a creative break, so the next few month I'm going to withdraw from the editor.

Have fun!

cheers, sum :icon31:

P.S. Don't mind the copy post...

judging from the single screenshot, that looks very impressive. Great style going on there.

If you could replace these two Q3A textures with custom ones, I could do an Elite Force conversion:

Thanks for replies.

@Salinga: I'll see what I can do, I'll send you an e-mail then...

@dubz: There is a second itemset with RG integrated, you need to have cpma installed though. >> Readme!

Very fun map Sumatra, and nicely done.

Would you happen to know of an alternate dl location for the contest pack that the link for the original map has on it? The server doesn't respond when I try to download it at http://rought.kontrollraum.org/contest2005.rar

thanks,

I have uploaded the original map to some webspace.
Hope it works!
Nice to see you back here schwim :p ...

Glad you like the map, unfortunately there have been found some minor issues (z-fightings, borked brushes..) yet .. but any map has its small bloopers... :icon25:

wow sumatra,

After playing the original, I'm even more impressed with your remake. Most people stay close to the theme when redoing a map, I guess cause they don't take the time to come up with a new one. Until I played the layout a bit, I had no idea that it was the same map. I thought you accidentally zipped the wrong map :)

thanks for the fun map.

If you find the time you should definitely make an EF conversion of pukka3dm2 ("Fascinating Senselessness"), sumatra. It really looks great when played with EF's Borg Models/Bots (tested with Salinga's Q32EF) :icon14:.

Hi Salinga!
Still working with EF as I can see :). Maybe I should look for my CD and re-install it (j/k it's still installed).

...btw where is your rank? I thought you are a Lt. Cmdr. ;).

I'm happy to say that Salinga is right on the maps:

It's a great map, some minor fps issues here. EF doesn't have much maps like these...

BTW, is the water supposed to be that weird opaque blue stuff that leaves marks? Just noticed that and thought it was kind of strange. Not some editorimage?

Right after it's release I told sumatra that this would be a great EF map. I'm glad to hear that there's an EF conversion finally :icon14:.

@obsidian: Yeah, I thought the same when I saw the water ;).

Lovely tourney map, although quite easy to dominate the bots on, I'd love to play it against a real live person. Bet it's really intense.

Glad to see it's been added to the LVL queue!

I'd be interested to know what compile switches you used for lighting.

Thanks for comments. There has been a finalbeta around, nobody mentioned the water looking odd. I like it :) ..

@Myth: Ye, hope to get some nice review going on there...

The lighting parameters with q3map2 2.5.16:

Code: Select all

-light -cpma -dark -deluxe -dirt -extra -fast -filter -patchshadows -shade -v -gamma 1.2 -samplesize 1 -shadeangle 80
