yo canada computers is two blocks from where i live. there's a strip of about 20 computer stores along college street. you should brave the big city and go from store to store looking for the best deal on the components you want. Although canada computers usually has the best price, they don't always... other good stores near c.c. are alpha plus computers, filtech, sonnam, inmax.
tell them the Mississauga Jew sent ya.
You're right, but my car's in the repair shop and needs a new transmission. That'll cost a pretty fortune there and my mobility has been greatly cut.
I don't know, I took it all apart, motherboard and all. I'm going down to Canada Computers this afternoon and buying that mobo and CPU. They restocked tonight.
Actually I think it was that Antec that damaged my motherboard. It only lasted me 4 months before the fans stopped working. I didn't realize it until the crashes started and happened to put my hand on the back of the computer - didn't feel any air so I knew something was wrong. This session of crashes started March 21st. Then it didn't crash for 10 days. Then it crashed every 2 days. Then everyday, then every damn minute. After a new video card, RAM upgrade/test/shuffle, reformat, new processor fan, and chassis fan, I'm finally getting a mobo and CPU. It's also going to be a huge upgrade as well. From a shitty AMI Socket 478 to a great Asus 775 and from a crappy P4 2.6ghz to a dual-core 2.66 P4
BTW, a repair install of XP is enough when you're changing mobos, right? I've read that it's sufficient enough. All you have to do is avoid booting into XP before a repair/reinstall when you've replaced it.
Amidy, I just took a look at the CPU. It says the memory type for it is DDR2 400/533/667. I have DDR400 and am confused because doesn't DDR2 start from 533?
Ok, I bought the mobo and CPU, thanks for all the help Amidy! $270 total with tax.
Now, I'm stuck on connecting my front USB and HD to the motherboard, everything else has been done. The USB wires have many single pin connectors that connect to the slots together and the manual doesn't help much. Also, I'm having problems connecting my HD connectors and the manual doesn't specify much about the IDE cables either
This is my first time installing a CPU and mobo btw, I've done pretty well so far
Alrighty, it's all done! Just finished repairing XP and am now installing SP2. System is uber-sexy and much faster now. Here's to hoping no more BSODs will occur.
Well I have my new motherboard and processor set in and I haven't crashed anymore. However, whenever I go into the Start Menu and select Shut Down, the menu just goes away and the computer freezes. The mouse cursor looks as if it's waiting for something and I don't even get a menu with choices to Shut off, Restart, or Log Off. What could be the problem? I've also noticed that my KOTOR II game loads up corrupted. The game runs as if I'm using a 266mhz processor and its menus do not load up properly. My AVG Free has also been becoming corrupt, I had to reinstall it 3 times last night and I bet once I get home and check on my computer, it may tell me to reinstall again.
I decided to see if it still freezes when you try to shut down. I select Start Menu Turn off your Computer and it just freezes up. I'm forced to do a hard restart and when the desktop loads up, I get another "AVG installation is damaged. Please reinstall" message. However, now Start Menu won't crash.
I think they're related, AVG and the freeze-up, but the question is, how do I fix it? Without AVG Free, I'm left without protection.
Well I played Battlefront II and it was as smooth as Angelina Jolie's ass so it's working perfectly for me
I'll change KOTOR II's affinity to CPU 1 to fix its problems - it's a game that hates dual-cores. I also changed my Nvidia drivers and added Forceware and O/Ced to reasonable levels.

TBH, I don't use it on my own system. I use Symantec Corp 10.1 on my home network.
