Teacher forces student to stand during national anthem
Or at least he tries to. Student refuses and teacher pulls out chair from underneath student. All caught on film by another student.

Teach might be a nationalistic asshole, but the kids are fucking punks, too.

The kids may have been punks, but they should be sent out of class or to the principal's office rather than forced to stand and sing the national anthem.

Who knows. In Canada students are encouraged to sing their national anthem at assembly, but not daily in class. I think it's silly either way.

its not about the anthem...its about them disrepecting and trying to make the teacher go ballistic...they were agitating him...i would have made them read neocon speeches in front of the class...
a defining attribute of a government is that it has a monopoly on the legitimate exercise of violence...

So the kids may have treated him badly. So what? He should respond with warnings and if they continue, they get the boot out of class or sent to the principal's office or have their parents notified, etc. You don't pull out a chair from under a student.

Not so much as I used to be. I do have a buddy @ work that sends me the better links and I read those. Once in a while I'll go there on my own, but not too often anymore.Massive Quasars wrote:Fender, are you a regular reader of Reason online?

I enjoy reading Reason once in a while, as well.
For instance browsing now, I see this article:

Future stroke victim.
Every American has a liberty to do whatever they please as long as it is within the law. You can do everything short of burning a flag, if you so desire to.
Of course, present dissent should not punish the real Americans of generations past. Just because you hate the Bush regime doesn't mean you shouldn't be patriotic.

Interesting point, Fender. I wonder if my believing flag burning to be illegal is a subconscious esult of the spin machine?
I'll have to research it, although burning a flag is counter productive, unless it's a flag purchased edit: stolen from Wal-Mart, which are for the majority made in China. Amazing, isn't it?

that guy didn't have control of the classroom.
the kids look like a bunch of spoilt little assholes (but i'm over 25, so i'm bound to think that).
spoilt or not, if you don't have the ability to control a group of kids without resorting to shouting, threats and minor physical attacks then maybe you shouldn't be teaching.
