I hate golf (replicant, shadd_, etc.)
What a waste of 4 hours today was.
I could have had more fun paying a midget $40 to punch me in the nuts for a half an hour.
Someone want to buy my clubs and bag and its contents? Titleist 704s, vokey oil can finish wedges with the new winn g8 grips, yes callie putter, callaway x460 tour driver (9.5, s-flex), cobra ss hyper steel 3w, about 3 dozen V1X golf balls, a shitload of long tees, advil, benadryl, rain gear, 3 sharpies, 2 towels, and 3 footjoy gloves?
All yours for $20 plus shipping.
Good fucking riddance.
I will say the new driver has been nice...hits slightly off center really do well, especially if you miss a bit to the toe. Get a nice draw out of that due to the variable thickness of the face or something. Unfortunately the scoring clubs (wedges and putter) are gone.
I broke a string of 30 rounds in a row below 80 today.
bleh.

I completely understand why people who don't play might think that. I see people on the range who are beginning later in life...adults who can't hit the ball 150 yards, who miss the ball, etc., and I think 'how in the hell could they pay money for that?'Dr_Watson wrote:golf has the worst $:fun ratio of any game ever created. I'll never understand why anyone plays it.
I think golf takes a lot of practice before it really becomes enjoyable as a sport - it can still be enjoyable to people who suck as a chance to be with friends for several hours, taking in the scenery, having some beers, and a bit of light competition.
The thing about golf is that no matter how good you get, you are never satisfied...and you are always driven to beat your previous best, so it keeps you going.

so feel better today? amazing how a game can cause a man such fucking frustration. considering you mostly only play against yourself anyways.tnf wrote:

something about golf that keeps it going for how many hundreds of years? and things have been quite advanced in golf for at least 100 years. as far as htting a ball goes anyways.

Another interesting thing - all this technology, and the average golfer's score really hasn't changed much.shadd_ wrote:so feel better today? amazing how a game can cause a man such fucking frustration. considering you mostly only play against yourself anyways.tnf wrote:

I know my driver is way more forviging now, and I think because of that other parts of my game don't get the practice they used to...so its like as one part gets better, another gets a bit worse, and its a wash at the end of the day.
My longest drives ever, still, were with my original big bertha, 7.5 degrees loft, 47 inches, s-flex, with two strips of lead tape right at the middle of the back end.
but man could I duck hook the shit out of that thing.
i'm doing a strictly fun round of 18 tomorrow. no scorekeeping. mind altering substances will be consumed the minute the proshop is out of view.
fun rounds arte great once in a while. the driver comes out on all the dog leg par 4's, you go for the green no matter how many massive pine trees your ball has to knock over to get there, get hit by lightning, etc..
ahh fun times.

After my neck surgery (almost 4 years now - crazy, I still remember talking to people here when I was first thinking I might have to have it...) I had to completely re-learn my swing...and learn how to generate more power through timing and mechanics rather than with just strength and athleticism. the first time I tried to play after surgery (like 6 months later or something), I couldn't make myself hit down into the ball because I was so paranoid about jarring my neck and damaging the fusion.MKJ wrote:i wonder if your crappy golf is related to your neck problems
The main problem I have is with stiffness and knots in the neck - since they put the metal plate in there I have a bit less flexibility in the neck and I've got unnatural stress on the muscles now, which leads to tightness and knots, which can lead to problems in repeating your swing again and again...and I have a bitch of a time with 3 day tournaments.
But all in all, I've actually gone on to play some of my best golf since surgery.

accuracy goes down a bit if I swing 100%. Also unless the hole is straigt I tend to hit it through the fairway sometimes. It sure is fun tho hitting blind over the corner on a dogleg hole and seeing where it ended up, usually a short chip to the green. I played with my gf's dad a couple weeks ago and drove 3 greens on 4 pars. He was like wtf?
