Blue Screen of Death, yay!

Post by Naaseh »

Ok...so I've been having problems with the almighty blue screen of death...the sound goes all buggy and the screen goes blue and says "now dumping physical memory" and all kinds of stuff, I can take a picture of it if needed...
I searched the forums about my problem and found a post that resulted in the person updating their sound drivers, pretty much the same sound card as me, so I did that. I also updated my graphics card drivers. I still get the blue screen of death from time to time, but it's not as frequently. It's still a major pain though, and seems to happen at crucial points while playing Quake 4. Is there anything else I can do to fix this problem? I have a slightly crappy graphics card, the Nvidia GeForce FX 5700, there are many worse out there, but I guess that might be effecting it? I have no idea...
for reference:
Video Card: GeForce FX 5700 (teh_suxX0rs but fully updated drivers)
Sound Card: Audigy 2 ZS Platinum (updated drivers)
2.8Ghz Intel Pentium 4 CPU
Windows 2k (fully updated)
1 gig of RAM
and I also have like 5GB of HD space left...would that effect anything?

First, to find out if the sound drivers are causing the problem, boot into safe mode and see if you get the BSOD. If not, chances are good for sound or something similar. Then go into add/remove programs and remove your sound drivers. Or into device manager.

If you still get the BSOD, could be your install of Windows is corrupt, RAM is bad, or the Motherboard is shot.
