Couple sweet pictures (DSL beware, 56k DIAF)

Post by bitWISE »

My step brother just got a Canon Digital Rebel to go with his regular Rebel and damn is this thing sweet. I just washed my car so I figured I would get some shots of it. Looks like I should have dried it off first :tear:. I'm linking these pics because they are roughly 3mb each.

Shift plate...thought it looked like a neat shot

I think I'm going to have to get her detailed and then take some more shots.

Yeah and I don't even know what I'm doing. All I did was point the camera and click. The shifter required me to turn off the flash but thats about as advanced as I got.

Cost him $1000 after getting the accesory kit and a 1gb CompactFlash at Best Buy.

Learn to resize your pics, its useless to post full res images since they don't fit completely on anyone's monitor.

I had to upload the pictures to my FTP because our LAN was acting weird and wouldn't let me copy them from his computer to mine. Besides, these are raw images that came out of the camera so its a better representation of what you would get without Photoshop.

You need to capture the whole car and I can see you in the reflections. :)

I had to wash it on the side of a hill so the shot looks really awkward

Looks cool, but only noobs use 1280x1024. 1280x960 is where its at.

You missing out on 64 pixels :P

It fits my 19" perfectly and I'm still running at 85hz refresh.

Thing is your monitor's aspect ratio is 4:3 and not 5:4. So every picture you see is taller than its supposed to be.

Not true in all cases. If I set my res to 1280x960 I get black borders on the left and right sides of my monitor. It will not stretch out to fit the screen either.

edit: For reference, this is my monitor.

Bullshit, all 17" TFT's are native 1280x1024 for example.

1280x1024 isn't 4:3 though. Those TFTs could have 5:4 ratio, or possible be showing negligibly distored imagery.

edit: Judging by scourge34's post, it would seem likely that they have 5:4 ratio as he gets black strips with the resolution at 1280x960

The ratio determines whether the picture gets distorted or "windowed" on a non 4:3 screen, innit? 1280x960 is a 4:3 resolution, 1280x1024 is 5:4

What I'm trying to say is that the ratio isn't interesting - it's the proper resolution that counts. The standard is 1280x1024 nowadays, 1280x960 was only used on old CRT's years ago.

Better make stuff 1280x1024 anyways, if you want it @ 1280x960 you can just crop it. It's hard to do the opposite.

If you work with print, yes, if you don't, no.

So your TFT is 5:4 but my CRT is 4:3, therefore using a resolution with a different ratio will cause a distorted picture, like I've mentionned above.
