n00b needs help...

So yea, i'm a n00b at Q3, but everyone has to start somewhere. As a n00b, I have some n00bish questions...
ok, when i'm playing online, sometimes I get this message that pops up saying "No item in use" or something similar and then my mouse either jerks all the way up or all the way down and when I try to bring it back to center so I can see something other than the floor or sky, it does it again "no item in use" *whoosh up or down* can someone help me fix this? Oh, and I downloaded and installed the newest patch point release thing...and I have Arena, not Team Arena is that all makes any difference.
Another one is when playing some CTF I noticed it saying "connection interupted" and my game pausing for like half a second, is that just because of server lag or is there actually something up with my game/connection?
thus ends my n00bish questions for now...any help would be great...

first problems sounds like you incorperated a rocketjump script in your configuration files.

check all your .cfg files key bindings.
one of the keys your pressing may be bound to a rocket jump script .

the no_item is probably the rocketlauncher and the up and down quickly stuff is the attempted rocket jump


when playing online type in the console
/com_maxfps 125

this may get rid of the connection interupted .. also read up on how to tweak your q3 connection settings

I checked all my .cfg files and just did a ctrl+f for "rocket" and they all just say "1" seta cg_oldRocket
I dunno what i'm exactly looking for...

look for words in your config like cl_pitchspeed +impulse 7 etc.

you will note that this script is bound to the ALT key

That's Q1 RJ script. (Q4 doesn't have the alias command and _impulse 6 is the command to select RL in Q4.)

@naaseh: did you get your Q3 installation from someone that just burnt it from his hdd on a cd or something? If you did a clean install from the retail disc, you couldn't have anything like a rocketjump script in your config. If you got Q3 from someone elses harddisk though, you could have some shit in your config. I've seen it before, so, just asking...

It just sounds like he should delete his q3config.cfg and see if the problems are gone then. Backup the file if you have anything special in it.

Didn't Q2 just use weapon5 and also Q3.
So them Q1 and Q4 uses _impulse for weapons.

Q2 used: bind x "use Rocket Launcher"

Q3: bind x "weapon 5" (not weapon5)

I have a retail disk, I found it in a drawer...thats how this all started, lol. I shouldn't have anything special in my configs, so I should just delete it then?

do it
