'pathologic' demo

Post by DRuM »

This game looks kind of interesting. A mix of RPG, action, stealth, and horror.

"Play the first four days as the seer Haruspicus.
Frogster Interactive has released a playable demo of Pathologic, allowing you to try out the horror-adventure developed by Ice-pick Lodge and described as "a unique example of a dramatic game, which directly affects the player’s state of mind. The game features a town with a life of its own, which constantly changes and adequately reacts to the player's behaviour and random circumstances, three unique campaigns, several endings, a complicated system of context-sensitive music arrangement and more. "

Interesting detailed preview here as well:

well, lol, I'm not so sure about this game now. I'm nearly done downloading the demo, and it'll be interesting to say the least.
But I've since read this, which doesn't bode too well.

You review it after your DL finishes and maybe I'll bother if you think it's still worth it.

hmmm na, i think you could play as a chick and she had guns and a whip or some shit... the demo was set in a cemetery, and you had werewolves, zombies and these weird flying creatures attacking you.

Well, I just did a bit of walking around and checking out inventory things. Dunno what to make of it tbh. One thing is for sure. It's got an extremely harrowing, creepy and depressing atmosphere. It's in first person mode. The way the character you control pulls his gun out is very slow, in a scary kind of way. Dialogue is weird. Whenever you meet someone, ( and there are plenty of people to talk to ), they come out with random vocal sentences, but the main dialogue is multiple choice questions and answers, text only. Graphics are good in places and look outdated in other places, but it's kind of unimportant given the nature of the game. I had some rats chasing me and biting me at one point, but they ran away when I shot one bullet in their direction. After that, I randomly got dizzy spells ( screen does that movie effect of double vision and swaying). You can load different scenes from day 4 and day 5. It seems this game is about finding out who is experimenting with someones blood to cure the epidemic spreading in the town. I think one of my quests was to find out who this person is and whose blood. I got told to use the knife to kill this girl, which I did.

Personally, I got bored. But, I think if you have the patience it could be interesting and involved, though a lot of things seem a bit confusing. I would say, give it a go. It's definitely bizarre! Some more screenshots.

True. But it's not a shoot em up by any means, and it's not meant to be a particularly graphics heavy game, hence it has the look of games which are a few years old. It's one of those dark, sinister games to love or hate I think. I'd be interested to see what anyone thinks of it who might download the demo. Maybe tnf or julios might like it.
